The Political Landscape Created by "The Colbert Report" and "The Daily Show"

Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart Make Politics and Politicians like Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton and John McCain More Fun

LIVIN
I am very pleased that Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart have achieved a level of clout that enables them to have politicians such as Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton and John McCain as guests on a frequent basis. I remember the days when "The Colbert Report" and "The Daily Show" struggled to get such high profile guests on such a frequent basis. Now, it is commonplace for presidential candidates such as Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton and John McCain to appear on the humorous television shows Stephen Colbert or Jon Stewart on the eve of Presidential primaries, or other such large political events. I would not be surprised to see Presidential nominees on "The Colbert Report" and "The Daily Show" on the day before the November 2008 Presidential election. This pleases me.

I am pleased by the clout of Comedy Central's humor anchormen because I can't stand watching the vast majority of politically aimed commentary polluting the television airwaves and inundating the internet. I also like the humor. It's fun to laugh, but it's more fun to not be utterly annoyed by the left/right, democrat/republican and liberal/conservative agenda bull. Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are breaths of fresh air when it comes to the political arena. Additionally, the political figures seem more interesting when they appear on "The Colbert Report" and "The Daily Show."

Without the political humor of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, I might be forced to forego politics all together considering the sad state of affairs of political coverage. It is truly sad. Luckily, they exist and have the clout to make a difference. In other words, they let me see the political figures with a whole lot less bull involved in the process. I'm not a fan of bull, especially in my politics. For removing the left/right, democrat/republican and liberal/conservative agendas, I salute you - favorite talk show hosts of mine.

Furthermore, I wish you luck in the future so that you can gain even more clout and perhaps, one day, you will be able to run for President or Senator or Governor or County Commissioner. Truly, any political field should be yours for the taking or at least the running. Perhaps Deputy Colbert? Sherriff Stewart? I don't know, I'm merely brainstorming. How about a dual ticket? Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart for Co-Council President. Yes, you heard me right. Neither one needs to be reduced to the lowly level of Vice President. We can leave that position for the likes of Dick Cheney. As Co-Council President, Stephen and Jon can pave the way for a new political landscape, just like they did with their television shows - a political landscape I could pay attention to without being forced to bang my head against a wall in the process. A political landscape the United States of America has yet to witness. Dreams can come true and I have a dream. Seriously, Presidency is the next logical step for two humorous anchormen. At least, that's what Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger told me.

Not only are those guys funny, but their news coverage is actually more accurate than that of their "serious" mainstream colleagues.

Although I don't often watch, I find them very funny too. I love following politics so they are right up my alley :)

I love those guys. They couldn't do any worse as co-presidents than what we've had these past eight years.

And Schwarzenegger was right, my friend. Good article. I am a great fan of both shows. I believe these guys put politics in perspective. And Jon Stewart will always be my hero for calling Tucker Carlson a "dick" on "Crossfire," and his indictment of the show as a mere talking points sham of show that got it cancelled by CNN (officially, they say this isn't so, but you know Jon was simply telling the truth). If you're interested, I wrote an article about Tucker Carlson, brilliantly titled "Tuckered Out," losing his show on MSNBC recently.
