The Poltergeist Movie Review: Perfect Halloween Movie for All
Beware When Things Start to Go Bump in the Night
One such movie that comes to my mind is a film by Steven Spielberg ....one he directed along with another well known director noted for his movies that go bump in the night, Tobe Hooper..
Yes, I'm talking about that classic tale of The Poltergeist..Starring Jobeth Williams and Craig T. Nelson as the harried parents whose life is turned upside down, literally!
This film took the spooky haunted house out of the "high on a deserted hilltop" shadowy existence it had been shown in so long and landed that house right smack dab in the middle of the suburbs.
It started out innocently enough when we meet the happy typical family who has just moved into a new house.....All of a sudden some strange things start to occur when playful poltergeists begin to play tricks on these unsuspecting folks...little things at first, but they soon escalate into terrifying moments for the family and for us in the viewing audience.
It doesn't take long before the house erupts into terrifying occurrences , taking the family's youngest child with them into their realm.
A team of paranormal ghost hunters are brought in to try to make sense of what's going on to no avail....at least at first.
The special effects are amazing in this film... Starting with the tree that explodes into the children's room in an attempt to kidnap the young boy and when the poltergeists arrive to take the little girl and she mysteriously disappears into the house itself... then, when the most horrifying entity of them all appears all hell breaks lose.
When the reasons are revealed behind these ghostly terrors we learn the truth about respecting the dead....It seems that the problem is this house is built on Indian burial grounds and the places they are put to rest
Better not mess around with ancient Indian burial grounds.... They won't like it!
The Poltergeist was released in 1982 and stilll stands up to time as a Classic Ghost Story
Definitions from Wikopedia: (from German poltern and Geist, "noisy ghost", "spirit", or "embodiment") denotes a spirit or ghost that manifests itself by moving and influencing objects.

Post a CommentIn my opinion, Poltergeist is still one of the best suspense/scary movies of all time. Great summary.
I watched this as a child, still gives me the creeps.

I watched this as a child... creepy. But, what would be an even more interesting article that you could write is what happened to the actors/actresses after the movies they made... I heard that several of them tragically died. Do you think that their deaths are in any way attached to the type of characters portrayed in the movie? I believe this is the same situation for some of "The Exorcist" participants. Great article! :D
I used to love horror movies but now prefer ones I can sleep after.
Other than providing "They're baaaaack," I didn't think there was much to the movie, when I saw it loooong ago.
Very nice review :-)
Great review on a great movie. You have got to see the E! True Hollywood story on this flick. Creepy!
Ah, this movie brings back memories of my childhood. This is one of the first really scary films I watched - the other was The Shining.
This is also one of my favorites...well done, spooky, and just plain fun. I enjoy the holiday too...one of my favorites.
