J.C. JORDAN
Did you ever wonder why there are lower rates of cancer in India? Well researchers believe that it's due to the spice cumin. Cumin is a staple in the diets of the people of India. It is also used in Mexican, Thai, and Vietnamese foods. Researchers believe that curcumin in this spice inhibits the enzymes that cancer cells need to attack healthy tissue.

This ancient spice is the dried seed from the herb Cuminum Cyminum (a member of the parsley family). It is sometimes called comino. If you have ever used cumin you know that it has a distinctive aroma.

Cumin is attributed with alleviating several aliments such as: morning sickness, indigestion, diarrhea, the common cold, fevers, and insomnia.

There is, of course, the traditional use for cumin, in cooking. It can be used in soups, curry, breads, cakes and sausages.

Spices add zip to our food and may actually have healing effects on our bodies.
