The Powerbook G4 Titanium: A Review

One of the greatest laptops ever made is probably the Powerbook G4 Titanium. I recently purchased one off of eBay for $200 dollars and I will tell you, I am very happy with it and could not be more delighted. The Powerbook G4 Titanium is cheap and affordable these days and with a 1 GHZ Processor and 640 MB of RAM it does everything a new computer these days would do for the common user. The Titanium case is one of my favorite aspects of this Powerbook because it makes this one of the most durable laptops ever even more so then the Aluminum Powerbook G4 which came after it. This Powerbook G4 can run Leopard, the newest version of Mac OS X, which is a big plus as well.

The Powerbook G4 Titanium was introduced by Steve Jobs as having both the power and the sex to be industry leader in notebooks. It had as much or more power as any other laptop or desktop for that matter in its day. The sex aspect of the Powerbook G4 Titanium was that it was a really great looking laptop, far exceeding many laptops in looks and portability. Even today there are few laptops that look as nice or preform as well as the Powerbook G4 Titanium.

One of my favorite aspects of the Powerbook G4 Titanium is the keyboard, it is one of the best keyboards Apple has ever made. The screen is also great, as it is a wide screen 15.2 inch screen. Its an overall pretty good laptop and I've been happy with it so far.

There are problems with these types of laptops and it seems like every laptop Apple makes has its Achilles heel and the Achilles heel for the Powerbook G4 Titanium is definitely the hinges. The hinges on these are notorious for breaking and they are extremely hard to fix. It's probably not worth it to fix the hinges, and just use the computer as is. Hinge repair is very expensive. The other problem with these laptops is that the paint chips and looks very ugly when it peels and chips. This of course is a cosmetic defect so its not a big deal, it just can become very unsightly.

Overall though, this is a very solid computer and if you can't afford a new one I'd recommend this one as well as other Apple products in the used laptop market. Apples just seem to last longer and are built more durable then their rivals.
