The Practical Guide to Giving

Timothy Scheiman
A tremendous amount has been said and written about giving. Some of which is incorrect or undue pressure to give from leaders in churches, employers, and charitable organizations. In this article I intend to give practical principles to giving. Giving has not only to do with money but that is the subject most written and talked about when it comes to giving. Here are some tips that you need to know.

Pay your bills first

To give your rent money to a church is not what God had intended. Don't expect God to bless you when you take money that is due to pay your mortgage and give it away. Giving has to do with what you have not what you don't have. Money that is earmarked to pay a bill does not belong to you to give away. God does bless people who give but you must not give away what you don't have to give. Some people get into trouble by not remembering this simple truth.

Don't give under pressure

No church or organization should pressure you into giving. You must give freely and not because you feel like your not part of group for not giving. You should give cause its in your heart to do so and you want to be a blessing. This is the right way to give and God sees are hearts and our motives for everything we do. I would not attend or give to a church who put pressure on its members to give.

Give to the poor and those in need

The bible says "he that gives to the poor lends to the Lord". God pays back with interest. If you lend to God its like God borrowed from you. When you borrow you always pay interest. If you want to be blessed remember those less fortunate than you. They are all around you. When someday you are need you will reap what you give out. God blesses those who hearts are in the right place.

Be mindful where you give

Lets face it some organizations and churches should not be receiving our money. I find it interesting the churches who preach giving by faith yet some of them don't understand it means the church too should be living by faith. The bible says "don't cast your pearls before swine". Not every place you could send your money should be receiving it. Christians especially should be sensitive to God's leading when it comes to giving.

Give with the right attitude

If you give give because you want to be blessing. In other words give with the right heart. As I said earlier, God sees our hearts and with what attitude we do things. Those who give with the right heart are the ones that God richly blesses.
