The Practice of Ear Candling

Rebecca Furtado
Ear candling is a very old practice of removing excess wax from your ears using candle heat. Excess ear wax can leave you fleeing congested. Some people who use ear candling swear it relieves headaches, ringing in the ears, and reduces sinus infections. This is thought to be due to the fact that ear candling removes the wax that has trapped excess water in the ear canal.

To do ear candling you will need some garlic oil, cotton swabs, foil, a paper plate, and cotton balls. You will want to create a hole in the paper plate to fit the tapered end of the candle through. Then you find someplace comfortable to lay down. The process of ear candling is best down with a partner for safety reasons.

The person doing the candling should light the base of the ear candle and set the tapered narrow part of the candle in the ear canal. The candle should burn about one inch. You then remove the candle and cut down the wick over a bowl of cold water. This process should be repeated at inch interval four times. When you have removed the excess wax then simply clean out any residue with the cotton swab and place in a few drops of garlic oil. Plug up the ear with a cotton ball until the garlic oil is absorbed in the ear canal.

Ear candling should not be done on an infected ear or on anyone with hearing difficulties. It is considered an alternative form of medicine and you should consult your doctor if you have any concerns about the safety of ear candling.

Many who practice ear candling advocate the use of beeswax ear candles and organic cotton wicks. Ear Candles made paraffin are a petroleum product and their wicks may be made from cotton treated with pesticides. In order to avoid using an unhealthy ear candle, you can purchase organic ear candles such as Kansas Candles. They are made from %100 organic beeswax and have organic cotton wicks. They are also made to easily fit and adapt to your ear canal to cut down on the amount of twisting you have to do to get a snug fit of the ear candle in your ear,

You can find Kansas candles at your favorite organic or natural product retailer. You can also order online. There are also candles available that are a mixture of bee's wax and paraffin that many people find acceptable to use for ear candling.
