The Pregnant Woman's Guide to Attractions at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California

What Rides Pregnant Women Should Definitely Avoid

Michelle S
While pregnant women are restricted from some of the attractions at Disneyland, there are plenty more attractions that they are able to enjoy. Disneyland has over fifty attractions and only eight of them are restricted for pregnant women.

The eight rides at the Disneyland Resort that pregnant women are not advised to ride are: Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Matterhorn Bobsleds, Autopia, Space Mountain, Gadget's Go-Coaster, and Star Tours. All of these ride either move at high speeds, have unexpected jolts, and/or or high G-forces. Riding these rides can cause pre-term labor or placentia previa, which are both harmful to baby and mother. While Autopia seems like a gentler ride, where the driver is in control of her speed, she has no control of the driver behind, who is often young, inexperienced, and likely to crash into the driver ahead.

Though only the previously mentioned rides are restricted at Disneyland to pregnant women, there are other rides that women may want to avoid during their pregnancy for various reasons specific to their trimester of pregnancy and the unique pregnancy symptoms they are experiencing.

Rides that pregnant women may want to consider avoiding, especially in their sensitive first and third trimesters include Pirates of the Caribbean, with its fast drops in elevation and the Teacups with their rapid spinning.

Women with morning sickness may want to avoid longer rides, such as It's a Small World which is a full 15 minutes from start to finish, and rides that spin such as the Teacups, King Arthur's Carousel, The Astro Orbiter, and Dumbo the Flying Elephant.

Women in their third trimester may want to avoid attractions with narrow openings such as Chip and Dale's Tree House and Donald's Boat in Toon Town and the caves on Tom Sawyer's Island in Frontierland. They'll certainly fit, but crouching over may be uncomfortable.

Pregnant women will want to use the restroom before waiting in long lines. They will also want to note that the busiest restrooms in Disneyland are the Adventureland restrooms and the least busy are the Tomorrowland restrooms.

Any pregnant women who are unfamiliar with the rides at Disneyland can ask any cast member (which is the term used to describe all Disneyland employees) about their particular concerns. Of course, all pregnant women should consult with their doctor before going on any Disney rides.
