In the early hours of August 26th 1986 Robert Chambers killed 18 year old Jennifer Levin in what he would later claim as a rough sex incident. Levin's semi clad corpse, which bore bite marks and bruises, was discovered near Fifth Avenue and 83rd Street behind the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her bra and shirt pushed up to her neck and her skirt around her waist. The reported cause of death, asphyxia by strangulation.

His story about the death changed frequently leading up to the hearing and the press labeled him as the 'Preppie Killer'. He, at one point, claimed the murder was an act of self defense. He was convicted on Manslaughter and sentenced to serve 5 to 15 years for his crime. He served the majority of his fifteen year sentence in the Auburn State Prison but was later moved to Clinton Correctional Facility for infractions which cost him his chance for time off for good behavior. During his time inside he assaulted a correctional officer and was repeatedly cited for drug and weapons offences, some of which resulted in additional criminal charges. Another factor that prevented his early release were the actions of Ellen Levin, Jennifer's mother, who appealed to the parole board to deny him parole.

He was discharged from prison on February 14th 2003.

Chambers, now aged 41, and his live in girl friend, Shawn Kovell, aged 39, were arrested today after they were caught on camera selling illegal substances, in this case reported to be cocaine, to under cover police officers. According to authorities Chambers made matters worse by resisting arrest and breaking one officer's wrist during the struggles. Something that Chambers should have known would only make matters worse, after his violent actions whilst serving time.

Chambers and Kovell have been accused of dealing drugs out of their East 57th St apartment for the past three months. During this time Chambers is reported to have sold a half pound of cocaine to under cover members of the NYPD. Both suspects are also reported to have been using the very drugs they were selling.

Tenants of the same apartment block had been aware of problems and had already made one failed attempt to have the couple evicted from the rent stabilized apartment that Kovell is believed to have inherited from her mother.

The arraignment has been postponed until October 24th due to Chambers and Kovell's plea that they lacked the funds for legal representation.
