The Prestige is a Blockbuster Hit with Audiences

A brilliant, star-studded cast headlines this amazing adventure that follows the duel of two magicians in turn-of-the-century London. The movie's premise follows the basic formula of any great magic trick: First, the magician gives the audience a glimpse of the ordinary, which is called "The Pledge." Next, the ordinary becomes extreme and unimaginable. This is known as "The Turn." However, as Cutter [played brilliantly by Michael Caine] tells us "if you're looking for the secret…you won't find it, that's why there's a third act…" This leaves us with "The Prestige," which bends and twists our belief and leaves us with an astonishment that only makes us want to see it again.

The movie's organization follows closely with these various portions of the magic trick. This brilliant logic is what leaves us asking to see the movie again, just as we would with any great magic trick. But has writer/producer Christopher Nolan pulled the wool over our eyes? Absolutely, and with the brilliance that only a true magician could have. The duel between the two magicians Robert Angier, played by Hugh Jackman, and Alfred Borden, played by Christian Bale, centers around Angier's attempt to figure out Borden's amazing magic trick "The Transported Man." In the trick, Christian Bale presents himself on stage with two closets. Bale then bounces a rubber ball from one door to the other, while stepping into one closet and magically appearing at the other to catch the rubber ball. Throughout the film, Hugh Jackman's character attempts to discover the secret method behind "The Transported Man" trick, and finally discovers his own method to perform the trick. The two duel until the deaths of both men, but this film doesn't end here, so you'll have to see the movie for yourself to figure out how.
The ending is simply shocking and leaves the audience still calculating the ramifications of what the film entails. Other headlining cast members include Scarlett Johansson, Piper Perabo, and Rebecca Hall. Overall, the film is eerily similar to the mystique of Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins but contains the elaborate historical background to fit the fictional, winding plot. That is what makes this movie among the elite this year. Look for The Prestige to have a significant presence in this year's movie awards. Best Actor, Best Supporting Role, and Best Screen Play are possible awards for The Prestige. Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman lived the roles and accentuated the essence of what it takes to be a true magician. Their performance under the direction of Christopher Nolan is what makes this movie one of the blockbuster hits of the year.

Judging from the general sentiments of theatre audiences following the film,The Prestige will be a hit on retail shelves as well.
