Most dog owners try unsuccessfully to keep reindeer antlers on our dogs at Christmas. For us, it is hard to believe these dressed-up dogs will willingly parade down a runway with perfect aplomb, draped in such finery, while an emcee gushes over each fashion detail, yet. But believe it. Seriously, check the video. .
Now you might look at this video and think it's a joke, but apparently all dogs and owners do not. One dog owner of a tutu-clad terrier explained that dogs have distinct personalities and they like to express their personalities through fashion. She said "My dog loves to wear clothes and jewelry." Jewelry? You mean like a diamond encrusted dog tag? No, more like pearl necklaces and golden pendants to perfectly accessorize evening gowns.
Personally? I think Sir Pooch would gnash his teeth if so attired, and thrash around on the ground trying to shred his tux jacket, and snarl at his ruffled cape. And I can only imagine what he would do if he witnessed the 2011 mock wedding, excuse me pup nuptial, ceremony, following the Pre-Westminster Fashion Show.
Still, there are free hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar, and proceeds from the $25 tickets (in 2011) go to animal rescue groups. It's a worthy cause, which I will explain to Sir Pooch if he ever stops laughing.
FYI: Here is a quote from Lisa Begin-Kruysman's Blog on Her Book About National Dog Week: "This event (the Pre-Westminster Fashion Show) is all about presenting the latest product in the market, supporting and recognizing members of our dog community that are the heart of all...it's about having dog owners confirm their friendship and the love of their pets. It's about helping local rescues....it's about an industry that depends on the members of its community to thrive, to get strong and keep growing. It's about passion, commitment...the need to help make this planet a better place for all! "

Post a Commentgood work!
Delightfully silly :)
Dogs and pets in costumes is why other countries hate us.
I think it's taking it too far. Ok for a one-off special event, like Christmas or Saint Patrick's Day, but some people dress their dogs up like this all the time.
I missed out.
Very interesting!
I missed it this year but I love watching the show. My puppy would never go for getting all fancied up, she'd lay there and look at me thinking of revenge.
You should probably thank the MilkBone people for providing the free hors d'oeuvres.
My family is settling in to watch the dog show right now. Love the cute pups!
Sir Pooch sounds like a classy dog... unlike some of these. There is a series of photos of dogs in various articles of clothing that gets sent around on email with the caption, "Why Good Dogs Bite."
