How is the petrol price in your neck of the woods?
My way here is has just about doubled in price in the last 18 months. It is hurting us; really hurting.
People have stopped going out as much. Prices are starting to rise big-time.
And us Aussies travel big distances often. It's all a bit of a worry as we say in these parts.
It's certainly cramped my style. I commute between a city and a bush home and now I'm really thinking twice about traveling.
One of my sisters bought a brand new Toyota Prius electric car and went on a 3 thousand kilometre round trip for around $100.00 worth of petrol.
Here there are not many electric cars on the market - but what is available is selling real fast.
And I note that the petrol price has caused a new crime wave.
People are filling up their cars and taking off at high speed from roadhouses.
More cars are now being siphoned off for the petrol or diesel.
So conditions of poverty are elevating the crime rate.
In other words people who did not steal petrol a few months ago and had most likely never stolen any petrol in their lives are now resorting to the crime of petrol-stealing.
I find this real sad.
I know there are many people who believe that a certain type of pathological, antisocial or otherwise immoral attitude is what makes people inherently a criminal.
But one only has to examine and note the recent elevation of petrol stealing crimes to see and understand that poverty is just about the main cause of most crime in our society.
Poverty can drive otherwise law abiding people to consider crime and to then commit it. And being poor can create an antisocial attitude in people who react by feeling marginalized.
Sure - some (such as myself) stay home more but some choose to steal when, if conditions were different would not do so.
What more can I say.
