The Prince of Babylon

Debby Alten
From royalty of Israel
Belteshazzar . . . as Daniel you were known
Your beauty surpassed them all
Your knowledge
Impressed the king of Babylon
Dreams and visions
You foretold
Magicians, enchanters
Held no place in your courts

To the wise of Babylon
Appointed to die
Watchers of stars, diviners,
Charmers and sorcerers . . .
You spared their lives
Revealing the mysteries
Of darkened prophecies
Even the king . . .
Prostrated before you

From nobility in Israel
As Daniel you were known
Belteshazzar . . .
The Prince of Babylon
Kings gave honor
Incense and offerings
Your wisdom
Beyond their grasp
No magic was found in you
No glory you sought
In the royal courts of Babylon
