With the talents this young man possess, it's quite impossible to believe that no one has signed Young Zeek yet. "That's what I'm waiting on," Zeek says with enthusiasm. "I'm ready for whatever. All I need now is someone to sponsor me, give me that big break;" He's made several performances at local and out-of-state "Open Mic Night's and talent shows.
Born Isaiah Johnson, he gained the nickname "Young Zeek" as a child, growing up admiring artists like Prince, LL Cool J, and Tupac. Zeek says that his Uncle Steve influenced him the most. He would always do acts and sing like Prince," Zeek smiled. "But I got my start just like everyone else, in the church. It's funny because I didn't want to do it, but I had to and I did.
Having those experiences and influences were just the beginning for who we will soon come to know as "The Prince of the City".
Adding more influence to Zeek's love of Rap and Hip-Hop, the older boys in his neighborhood gave him the final confirmation he needed for what he wanted to do with his life. "I used to watch and listen to the older guys on the block rapping, and I wanted to do the same thing," Zeek stated with assurance. "I knew then, that if I applied myself, I could be just as good as them cats or even TUPAC or LL [Cool J]." And believe me, he's definitely on his way people. And at the ripe age of seven, "The Prince of the City" was born; Although Zeek says that he'll forever be - "Young Zeek" but he's "Young Zeek A.K.A. The Prince of the City". Zeek performed for Ford Elementary as his very first time to shine in Highland Park, winning first place with his rendition of LL Cool J's "I Need Love".
"I like to think of myself as a crowd pleaser," smiles The Prince of the City. "I always interact with the crowd. I come out, get them pumped, and then go from there."
With that attitude, it was no question as to why he'd title himself as "The Prince of the City".
"Even though I see myself as a Prince, one that is at the top of Royalty, I also know that there is nothing above or greater than God-who is The King of all things," admits Zeek. "So, I would be the next person after God; The Prince." Staying in the realm of Royalty, "The Prince of the City" is preparing an entire Royal Empire. Under the management of Chad West, Zeek has started his own record label titled Royalty Gang which has been progressively helping "The Prince of the City" make hits for more than a year.
Zeek's career actually began as a founding member of "Click N' Spark". a group created when he was in the sixth grade and made up of five family members: Young Zeek, A-One, Scanny, Mack and K.O. "This was my start, the beginning of my [rap] career," Zeek reminisces. "We used to be called "D.N. for 'Dangerous Niggas", but we decided that it wasn't marketable and changed it to "Click N' Spark". The group's name is credited to member and cousin Mack, which is derived from what the group represents. "We are a click of guys that connect," begins Young Zeek. "And when we get together, our connection makes a spark."
The Prince of the City is even more than that, as he continues to write lyrics for R&B included with Rap and Hip-Hop; writes hooks for other artists on his label; He's been dipping his feet in some producing and has his eyes set on doing some modeling and acting. I must say that this young man is definitely ready for the world! He states that he's very active on his label "ROYALTY GANG".
"I'm not just on the label [ROYALTY GANG], I do things for it also," The Prince of the City adds. His music can be heard on his Myspace profile: http://www.myspace.com/zeekjohn06yahoocom
