Like the Nova Scotia provincial nomination program, the Prince Edward Island provincial nomination visa program enable candidates to apply to the program themselves instead of requiring applications to be submitted by employers. This program enable foreign workers to come of Canada with a job offer, by establishing a business or by investing in an existing business. Some of the categories do employ points based skills assessments under the Prince Edward Island provincial nomination visa program.
There are four categories that applications can be submitted under to the Prince Edward Island provincial nomination visa program.
The Prince Edward Island skilled worker category requires of applicants to have a permanent full time job offer from a company in the province. This category has a self assessment that all applicants must score at least 50 points on. Applicants will also need to have proper education and training for the position, the ability to fluently speak English or French and the intention to settle in the province.
The Prince Edward Island immigrant entrepreneur category is for applicants that want to come to Canada to start a business in the province. There are a number of requirements that must be met to qualify under this category. Successful candidates will need to have net worth of at least CDN $400,000, have a detailed business plan and be able to make a deposit of CDN $100,000 that will be returned after one year of residency and a successful undertaking of the business. A good faith deposit of CDN $25,000 with the government, which will also be refunded after one year, is also required. Applicants will need to be fluent in either English or French and meet certain requirements for age, education and business experience.
The Prince Edward Island immigrant partner category is for applicants that want to invest and have an active role in management of a company in the province. To qualify for this category you will need to have a net worth of at least CDN $400,000, invest at least CDN $200,000 in a new business or purchase at least 33 percent of an existing business, and make a refundable deposit of CDN $25,000. Candidates are also assessed on age, business experience, education and language skills.
The Prince Edward Island immigrant connections category is aimed at immigrants that have already become settled in the province and want to sponsor family members that they want to be nominated by the province to immigrate to Prince Edward Island. Under this category applicants are assessed using a points based system and the sponsor also has to meet some criteria. The sponsor must have been a resident of Canada in the province for over two years and have sufficient financial resources. The applicant will need to meet the conditions of having a permanent full time job offer and if older, must be in good health.
Family immigration is permitted with this visa. Successful applicants can bring a spouse or partner and dependent children to Canada with them.
