The Princess Bride was directed by Rob Reiner in 1987 and is one of my most favorite movies to come out of the eighties.
How can anyone ever forget the Fire Swamp, the Pit of Despair, the ROUS's, the sword fighting, or the Giant, all for True Love?? That would be INCONCEIVABLE!
The Princess Bride is an action packed movie filled with excitement and wit. The Prince falls in love with Buttercup, while her heart yearns for her one true love, Wesley, to return to rescue her. She gets kidnapped by a Giant, a revenge-seeking Spaniard and a cunning conniving genius, all who get outwitted by the masked Pirate Roberts, who is on their trail. Realizing that Roberts is her Wesley in disguise, they rush to escape the Prince, and hide in the Fire Swamp. Through fire spurts, quick sand and rodents of unusual size, they survive, but only to find themselves face to face with the Prince and his men. Buttercup is then taken to the castle with Prince Humperdinck after making a deal with him to let her Wesley go, free from harm. Of course the Prince lies to her and orders Wesley into the Pit of Despair, where he is tortured. Leaving him half dead, or should I say "mostly dead". The Spaniard and the Giant hear his cries and try to help him so they bring him to Miracle Max to try and save him. There is only one reason worth living for and Wesley manages to whisper "True Love" to Miracle Max. He then restores his life and they are off to fight the Prince and free Buttercup. In the end, the Spaniard comes face to face with the six-fingered man who killed his Father, which happens to be the Prince's right hand man, and Buttercup and Wesley reunite and live happily ever after.
Cary Elwes played Westley, Mandy Patinkin played the Spaniard, Chris Sarandon played Prince Humperdinck, Andre the Giant was Fezzik, the Princess Buttercup was Robin Wright and Billie Crystal played Miracle Max. There were also other great actors and actresses in this classic eighties film. Peter Falk narrates the story to his Grandson, played by Fred Savage.
Everyone must own a copy of this great eights family movie!
