While growing up, I always slacked off and tried to get by with the bare minimum. Most of the kids in my school also did the same, except for the few people that actually knew the truth. The truth in fact, is that school is the future of every student, and it teaches you more than you imagine. A kid can learn more than just social relations or how much money they will need for the food court. They can and do learn a lot more and realize it after it's too late.
A kid learns the math functions to comprehend how to take care of their house. They have the opportunity to learn how a person reacts and how to control their emotions through psychology. The limits that kids can learn are endless, but for reasons, our schooling systems limit this knowledge. Instead of allowing kids to learn what they truly want to know about, we force them into classes "we" (as the school district) tell them which classes they need to take or they cannot graduate. By adding restrictions to kids, they become bottled up and refuse to learn.
As a kid, I fell victim to the punishment or perfection system. This system is when a kid can either be punished for not fulfilling what is expected, or do something perfect and get hardly any recognition. In the real world, this is how everything works, but no one teaches the young of today this lesson. Most kids hardly get a warning, and that's if they get lucky over the course of their life. The schooling systems also use this system, but like I said before, they do not allow kids a chance to understand how it works.
Besides the basics you learn in High School, these are the lessons that are very important to a kid. They need to have the ability and opportunity to see the truth behind the mask. In the real world, you either work for what you want, or you fall behind everyone else. As a kid, I never understood that lesson, although my parents told me constantly what was going to happen. Because I was so brainwashed by my peers, I ignored their warnings and I paid for the price in the long run. All kids fall victim to this harsh reality, and maybe it is the right thing to do.
Kids take this warning and brush it off like I did, and in the end make their parents upset with their mistakes. They punish the kid using the system noted before and the kid reacts in disobedience most of the time. This cycle repeats itself and only manifests a worse and worse outcome, resulting in a total disregard for anything school related. Both the parents and the teachers of the child are responsible to explain why they punished the youngling, before allowing the child to react negatively. This should result in a more positive reaction by the child, thus resulting in a better outlook on education.
Hopefully, by the time we begin to understand what we have done wrong, we can cure this issue and make our future children stronger. Time will only tell.
