Rules of the Line
At an Amusement Park
1. You may sit on the railing, even if posted otherwise, as long as no park employee tells you to get down.
2. You must allow about a 1 person gap (2 max.) between yourself and the person in front of you.
3. You must move at the same speed as the other people.
4. You may only stop at a drinking fountain along the way as long as you do not obstruct the normal flow of the line. Afterwards, you are allowed to return to your place in line.
5. You are not allowed to save a spot for more then 3 people. This is because a single care on a ride usually has room for only 4.
6. There is no such thing as back-cuts for strangers.
7. Balloons are not allowed to brought in line on windy days, because they will most likely hit other people around you. You are exempt from this rule if the line is completely indoor, although balloons are still annoying for most.
8. If you have gum, you are not allowed to stick it on the railing or on the wall. Both locations are perfect leaning spaces, and therefore gum sticking is strictly prohibited.
9.When you pontificate with others, it is a good idea to keep vulgar language and offensive content down to a minimum or at least at a whisper. You must remember that someone is stuck behind you, and perhaps doesn't want to hear what you are saying.
10. If a stranger asks you to save their spot while they go to the restroom, you are obliged to do so until you reach the end of the line. If you had to go to the bathroom would you want to be rushed?
11. When you leave the house remember to use deodorant. People who are stuck around you will be much obliged.
At the Walk Up Counter
A walk up counter is usually in a fast food restaurant, a convenience store, a post office, a bank, and other such businesses. Many of these places do not have ropes or railing to contain or direct a line. They may have objects strategically placed to create the illusion of a line. In these situations, you must examine the area and decided on the best action.
1. If you see one person standing behind another that is most likely a line.
2. If you are having trouble finding the line, ask someone.
3. If you get in what you think is the line, only to hear people say that the line is "back there," don't make a fuss or ignore. Simply move to the location where the individual directed you.
4. You are only allowed to save a spot for 1 person.
5. You should only allow a gap equal to one person in front of you, otherwise you run the risk of being cut,
6. If you are not buying anything, don't wait in line with whoever your accompanying. Stand off to the side or find a seat where the person is still visible.
7. If you are at a fast food restaurant and they made a mistake with your order, you are not required to wait in line again. You can bypass the line and go straight to the front. Ignore any comments of displeasure from others.
8. You must keep the line moving.
9. Do not get involved in intense conversations with anyone because this will slow the line.
10. Make sure you have enough money before you get in line.
11. While you are waiting in line, take that time to decide on what your doing and create a game plan.
