The Proper Way to Sign a Contract

Mya
There are so many reasons people sign contracts, those ways could be, coming into rental agreement, buying a new home, buying a vehicle or leasing any of the above. There are things to watch out for and I'm sure you've heard the saying "read the fine print" the reason why this saying is so popular is because so many people don't read the fine print and end up in contracts they don't recognize from the time they signed it. This could end up in some large legal battles in the future.

Once you've signed a contract you're now entered into with a legal agreement so you must read every detail of that contract. Don't allow yourself to be rushed into signing a contract, if you're in an office and you're feeling rushed to sign this contract that is the time you should take extra precautions and read the contract for as long as it takes you. Don't be interrupted, if the person you're signing the contract with interrupts you while you're reading it explained to them that you'll have to start all over with reading the contract each and every time they do. There's no reason to be rude just explain to them that this is the way your mind works, they should understand at that moment and quit interrupting.

A very sticky area and never should be overlooked is when you're signing a contract for a new car your purchasing. The cost the car should always be based on the date of the purchase and the date of delivery. These two should never be separated if they are that should put up a red flag. Explain to the person you're signing with that you want this contract to be binding from this date. At that moment they should be able to cross off the "date of delivery" and replace that way the "date of purchase" and initial it. Not that this happens often, but some manufacturers have raised prices from the time you signed the contract to the time of the car was delivered, thus making it the price of delivery rather than the price of the date of purchase. This is unfortunate because it often makes the car dealership looks very scandalous and again it all comes down to you not reading the binding contract.

Another area often overlooked is when you're signing a contract for an apartment rental or lease. Oftentimes there is an area which states that the landlord can terminate you because you decided to have a home office. Make sure this is taken off of the lease before you sign. Contracts can often benefit each party but be aware of your rights don't allow yourself to be pushed into signing a contract that you didn't fully understand. If need be, go to a lawyer and have them look it over before signing.
