The Pros, Cons, and Inbetweens of Homeschooling

Karai
My mother home-schooled me and my many siblings when we were young and we both know the ups and downs of homeschooling and Now we've found the perfect match between the quality and reliability of homeschooling and the inexpensive convenience of public school.

When you teach your own child from home, you have the opportunity took take charge of your child's education, can be flexible with your schedule, include the whole family in the learning process and you know that your child is getting the one on one attention that he/she needs. You can't get that kind of assurance when your child(ren) attend public school. Yes public school is basically free, but your are getting what you pay for. Some children may perform well in that type of environment but most others can't perform to their full potential in a classroom that is crowded with more students than the teacher can handle,or when they're constantly considering all else that happens within the school besides actually educational instruction which takes up a surprising percentage of the school day among the kids. Gossiping, cliquing, harmful influencing, they are all avoided when you home school.

But sometimes the responsibilities of homeschooling can be overwhelming; it can be costly and sometimes its a little harder to make sure that your child gets the social interaction they need. Not too long ago we found discovered an alternate solution; public school at home. You are provide with the curriculum, teacher interaction and support, and your child is working completely from the comfort and safety of your home. Not only that but they are also guarantee interaction in schools outings and field trips, yet it is all free. These schools are call cyber charter schools. They provide you with just the right mixture of active participation in your child's education because you are still teaching your child, but the curriculum and materials, including books and equipment such as computers and Internet access, are provided to you free, not even shipping do you have to pay. Not all states have approved this new advance in the quest for the perfect education but still many others do.

You should check in your state to see if they allow cyber charter schools and try it for yourself. Right now we are using ConnectionsAcademy.com and we are very satisfied.

I've been thinking about homeschooling myself. Because we live in a rural area, I'm a little worried about my children not getting enough interaction with other children. Very good article.
