The New PSPgo: A Review

One of the newest game consoles on the market is the new Sony PSP. Even if Sony itself said it was the worst kept secret on the E3, it was still a surprise to see the new redesigned PSP under a new name: PSPgo. It uses a new sliding design which changes the whole PSP and makes it a lot smaller when you turn it off.

It has a 3.8 inch display, which is smaller than the earlier versions of the PSP had. The older models had a 4.3 inch display but you don't have to care about that because the resolution of the new display is the same as the old one. But the new design is not everything that the new PSP has to offer. Apart from the new design biggest change in the new PSP is that the UMD drive was removed from the console which means that we will need to get games for it via download and store it on the 16 GB of integrated memory. The memory stick slot is still there and Sony gave an announcement that the people who already have games on their UMD will have the opportunity to get the games via download and store them on their PSPgo but they didn't mention anything about how this is going to work.

However from October when the new model comes into the stores (the price for the American market will be around $250, the price for all other markets weren't specified) all games will be available via download and on UMD. Apart from the fact that it is smaller and thinner, and that his buttons are hidden under the display when it is not used, the new PSP can use Bluetooth to connect with mobile phones, earphones and other mobile gadgets.
For now it is not announced will it be possible to connect with the PlayStation 3, but we believe back the remote play functionality won't be changed as many other functions that the PSP already has.

The new functionalities that the PSPgo has will be available for the older PSP models through a firmware upgrade that will bring new options for manipulation with multimedia. Starting with October the PSP will be capable off downloading from the PlayStation network but the restrictions for countries will be still there. Another element that was announced with the PSPgo should make all PSP owners happy: the SDK will be much more cheaper. Sony announced that he's reducing the price off the PSP SDK up to 80% which means that there will be a lot more games for the new PSP - which should lead to better quality games and for my opinion a boost in the sales.

As the PSP is mostly used outside the new model has a better qualities case which makes it even more resistible to falls and scratches. Sony announced that they didn't wanted to implement another analog stick because it would be unfair to the older users of the PSP. The new PSP is just basically a redesign of the old PSP which means that they can't put just another analog stick like that into the console.

The technology inside the PSP hasn't changed. There is no new processor or more memory but as we have to download every game onto the PSP there is more integrated memory. The new PSPgo will and has to change the world of mobile gaming as we know, as it will bring more features for the same or even a cheaper price. No other console on the market can do this. Sony has a great new console and I can't wait to see the new PSPgo.
