The Need for Psychological Services Insurance

Ron Lester
Currently, there is not an insurance product for psychological services. There are some services covered under major medical plans, however those are minute at the best. There is a growing demand for a separate psychological insurance policy in the United States. Finding employment is more difficult, more and more families are spending less time together, and children find themselves home alone more times than not. There is the so much stress in the world it has become apparent the need for psychological help.

Depression is a growing problem, ADD is another problem on the rise, and many more problems are rising along with these. While there are, in fact, numerous free clinics to attend these clinics are getting bogged down with case loads. Eventually, psychologists are going to expect more. I am surprised that no one has attempted to create an insurance of this type, especially with the number of insurance conglomerates in existence.

No one has even created a discount plan for psychological health providers. This baffles me. Consider all the different types of pyschological services available. Psychiatrists, psychologists, hypnotherapists, and numerous other new age therapists exist. This should raise a flag somewhere. What exactly are the differences between these psychology professionals?

Psychiatrists practice in discovering, preventing, treating, and rehabilitating the ailments of the mind. Their goal is to provide relief and improve the mind's well-being. They are divided in several subcategories.
Child and adolescent psychiatry
Geriatric psychiatry
Industrial psychiatry
Addiction psychiatry
Forensic psychiatry
Adult psychiatry
Behavioral medicine
Emergency psychiatry
Learning disability
Their patients are treated on either an inpatient or outpatient basis. The psychiatrists review the case files, speak with the patient, then determine what the best approach to their recovery is. They will prescribe drugs if there is a call for it.

Psychologists research and study the human mind. They are also broken down into several categories.
Clinical psychology
Forensic psychology
Sports psychology
School psychology
Health psychology
Medical psychology
Organizational psychology
Research psychology
Not all psychologists are licensed to prescibe medications.

Hypnotherapists assist with therapy while their subjects are in hypnosis. While in hypnosis the patients are subjected to mind modifications. There are several techniques hypnotherapists use to accomplish this.
Age regression
Past Life regression
Repetition
Post-hypnotic suggestion
Visualization
Direct suggestion
Indirect suggestion
Hypnoanalysis
Confusion
Parts therapy
Guided Imagery
Mental State

New Age therapy(psychotherapy) is therapy by a trained psychotherapist to aid people in their day to day living. These fall under different types.
Cognitive behavioral
Systemic therapy(family and marriage)
Existential
Psychodynamic
Brief therapy(strategic therapy)
Humanistic/supportive
Most forms of psychotherapy are applied through the use of the conversation, however there are other applications worth mentioning. Artwork, sound, drama, narratives, and therapeutic touch are other forms of popular psychotherapies in practice today.

This is why there should be a new form of insurance created. With all these options available, everyone should be able to determine what type of therapy would work best for them.
