The Public Transportation System in Lagos, Nigeria

Chapati
There are several ways to get around in Lagos State; the best bet is to have your very own car to take you around because it is much easier that way. If you do not own a car, there other methods that you could consider in order to get from one point to the other.

Here are the alternative means of transportation available in Lagos.

Buses

There are various types of buses in Lagos, there are:

Danfo (mini bus): The Danfo is a 14-18seater bus. It mostly plies distant and not-so distant routes. To board the Danfo bus, you need to go to the bus-stop and wait to hear the conductor announce (the conductor shouts at the top of his voice) the destination of the vehicle, if you hear him announce your destination, you simply board the bus and alight at your stop by answering "O wa o!"(It is here!) when the conductor calls-out the names of various bus-stops.

Molue: The Molue bus is also referred to as 911. This bus plies distant routes, it can accommodate up to 50 passengers. The conductor announces the destination of the bus and people going towards that direction board the bus, pay their fare and wait for the bus to take them to their various destinations. The Molue bus is also an avenue for drug peddlers to sell their wares, for beggars to beg for alms and for preachers' to preach the gospel to passengers. Many people buy and sell items on the Molue; items include health drugs and edible products. The Molue is the most uncomfortable bus in Lagos, but the cheapest. The same method of alighting at your bus-stop also applies to the Molue bus too.

Lag Bus: This is the most comfortable, organized and the most preferred transportation solution for many Lagosians. To board this bus, you'll purchase a ticket(s) to your destination from the ticket booth and simply hand your ticket to the conductor who validates it and directs you to an available seat. To alight at your stop, simply push a button that signals to the driver that a passenger wishes to alight at the next bus-stop. The Lag Bus was introduced by the Lagos State government in 2008.

The Okada (COMMERCIAL MOTORCYCLE): This is one of the fastest means of transportation in Lagos and many people who cannot stand Lagos traffic usually opt for this method of transportation. You simply tell the Okada man where you wish to go and he simply takes you there after you have agreed with him on the price that it is going to cost to take you to your destination. But it is a little bit pricey, if you want to go long distances.

Keke Napep (AUTO-TRICYCLE): This medium of transport is usually used to get around neighbourhoods and not long distances; it can accommodate 4 passengers at a time. The driver usually announces the neighbourhood or neighbourhood bus-stop he is headed for, and he waits for interested passengers to sit on the available seats in his vehicle and when the vehicle is filled with passengers, he collects the fare and drives them to their destinations.
