Performers Played at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio

The Pussycat Dolls were on tour, opening for Christina Aguilera right after Danity Kane on the Back to Basics Tour 2007. I caught their show with her in Columbus, Ohio. It has to be one of the best shows I have seen and definitely the best concert I saw in 2007. I saw the show on April 11, 2007, at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

The Pussycat Dolls are entertaining on stage. They are lively and excited, and they enjoy performing for the audience. It is even fun to watch. However, while they go out of their way to prove their musical talent during their stage show, they never actually succeed in proving it. Even letting the three who can sing do solos, and giving the lead singer free reign to demonstrate her vocal range, they never quite convince the audience that their musical talents are as important as their ability to shake their booties and rile up a crowd.

Lead singer Nicole and group members Carmit and Melody do get the opportunity to demonstrate their singing ability. Carmit gets her own song, the classic "Fever," Melody gets high-flying arias, and Nicole gets an extended a cappella number, which is surprisingly impressive, but none of this has the power to undo what has been shown to the audience from start to finish. These women are on stage for one reason and one reason alone, and it has nothing to do with their ability to sing in key or otherwise.

I feel sorry for the three girls who clearly cannot sing. Not only were they basically background material, without any of those starring moments given the ones who can, but they barely moved their mouths during the group sings, alerting me to the fact that they were barely singing, if they were singing at all.

An interesting event took place during the Pussycat Dolls performance in Columbus though. When lead singer Nicole wanted to demonstrate her bond with the Columbus crowd (She went to school in Dayton, Ohio), she yelled out to the audience, "Does this mean anything to you? H-O..." After giving it a moment to sink in, the crowd responded "I-O." "H-O." "I-O." She actually meant to say, at least I am assuming, "O-H". "O-H-I-O, that's the Ohio cheer. They were spelling Hoio.

I can recommend the Pussycat dolls as an entertaining performance, but if you are going for the music, feel free to come in at the intermission after their set. And certainly do not go for the spelling lesson.

Christina Aguilera's performance was electrifying. She burst onto the stage singing the hit "Ain't No Other Man" and spent the night going through all of her hits and multiple costume changes. She ended the night with the hit "Fighter." She has to be one of the best performers out there in pop music today. She was a great performer on stage, a great singer and a great dancer.
