The Quality Inn Gettysburg Motor Lodge is a High Quality Place to Stay

The Quality Inn Gettysburg Motor Lodge in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is sure to leave a memorable impression.

As a Civil War buff, I have visited Gettysburg on several occasions, each time staying in a different hotel. The Quality Inn was by far the best place I have stayed.

The Inn is a great deal for those who really want to experience Gettysburg in its entirety. It is just outside the bustle of downtown Gettysburg, yet a walkable distance if you care to get your exercise in. It is also less than a mile away from the battlefield.

My mother and I stayed here simply because everything else was full. It turned out to be perfect. Located a short walk from the Information Center and just down the street from numerous shops, museums and eateries, we seldom had to drive anywhere.

The Quality Inn offers all the modern amenities to guests, such as wireless Internet, air conditioning, television and a coffee maker. Our room came equipped with a fridge and microwave, which turned out to be handy for leftover restaurant meals. Free newspapers are available in the lobby, a fitness facility is open to those who care to use it, an outdoor heated pool is located in the center of the complex, and every morning there is a complimentary breakfast.

It was the experience that made us fall in love with the Quality Inn, however. We had several little mishaps in our room that, to this day, we cannot explain.

Once we checked into our room and had proceeded to settle in, we heard the microwave ding, as if it had been heating something up and had just finished its cycle. Yet it had not been on when we entered the room, and obviously neither of us had anything to warm up yet.

Later that evening, after being out and about, we returned to find the air conditioner off. No matter what we did, we could not restore it to working order. We went to the front desk and asked for maintenance to take a look at it. Just as the maintenance man arrived, the air conditioner kicked back on. Even the man had no way to explain it.

Nearing bedtime, I went in to use the bathroom. Suddenly, loud thumps could be heard on the far wall of the shower. At first I decided it must be the people in the room over, but then I realized that we were the last room on our side of the inn. There was no room on the other side of that wall, therefore, no one could possibly be thumping against the wall.

The hairdryer, posted on the wall outside the bathroom, had a built-in night lite. The night lite is one of those that has a sensor in it to turn on when it is dark and off when it is light. This night lite flickered and turned itself on and off several times throughout the night. This could be due to a bad bulb or a faulty sensor, I suppose.

Many of the rooms have adjoining doors, so families can open them up and share space. Ours also had one, but we kept it shut and locked since we did not know the folks in the next room over. My mother placed her suitcase, unzipped but with the flap closed, on the luggage wrack in front of this door. When we awoke in the morning, the suitcase was lying upside down on the floor, flap wide open, yet the contents were still all in place, perfectly folded, just upside down. Nothing else had been disturbed. Even the luggage wrack was still standing as it had been placed the previous night.

Gettysburg is reputed to be one of the most haunted places in the world, and the Quality Inn seems to share in that reputation. The battlefield may be located a mile down the road, but during the actual battle, men fought and died where the inn is presently located. While all of the strange happenings can be theorized in one way or another, I prefer to think the supernatural had a hand in it all.

Whether looking for a decent place to stay, or looking for ghosts and haunts, the Quality Inn seems to offer the best of both worlds.

Nice work, Katie. I've stayed at Quality Inn Motor Lodge various times and the location *is* great. I never had any of the strange experiences you did, though!
