Madonna or Madonna Louise Ciccone has been hailed as "the Queen of Pop". Madonna is also an actress , producer and entrepreneur. She was born in Bay City, Michigan to an Italian family in August 16, 1958. Her new line of Pop was singular for the lyrical strain and the rich imagery. She was a constant feature on MTV. Most of her numbers have featured as the #1 single on the charts and are all-time classics. These include favorites like "Papa Don't Preach", "Like a Prayer", "4 Minutes", "Frozen", "Vogue", "Hung Up", "Like a Virgin" and "Music". She has enjoyed both commercial success and critical acclaim. Her ability to express through music, she states, arises from the disturbed childhood she experienced. Madonna lost her mother to breast cancer at the tender age of five. The 'Material Girl' was a major fashion icon in the 1980s. Madonna 's debut album Madonna released in the September of 1983.Her music is a fusion of disco, rock and pop.

An aspiring ballet dancer, she first formed the band Emmy with Stephen Bray. The band's first two singles "Everybody" and "Physical attraction" turned out to be huge dance hits in New York. Their subsequent "Holiday" was Madonna's first top-ten hit. She was signed by Sire Records in 1982. The song "Rescue Me" that features in The Immaculate Collection holds the distinction of being the highest-debuting single in the U.S. chart history, by a female artist , as it entered at the number 15 slot.

She is distinguished by the Guinness Book of World Records as "the world's top-selling female recording artist of all time." She had also been recognized for her acting abilities as Eva Peron in movies like Evita (1996) that had fetched her the Golden Globe for Best Actress in Motion Picture Musical or Comedy . Madonna has been honoured with numerous MTV awards and five Grammys. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) hailed her as the" top-selling 20th century female artist". Moreover, she seconds the list of best-selling female artist in the US, just behind Barbra Streisand. She has, to her credit, 64 million licensed albums. The Queen of Pop was only second to the Beatles as Billboard enlisted the Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists. For the considerable influence and impact she had globally by virtue of her music, Time ranked her amongst the "25 Most Powerful Women of the Past Century."
