The war movie "The Hurt Locker" and the adventure of "Avatar," which managed nine nominations each for the most important film awards in the world, are among the favorites of the 10 candidates for best picture, but there is still doubt which of them will be the winner.

The broadcast of the gala, Sunday 7 March, is seen annually by hundreds of millions of people around the world, and the organizers of the Oscars at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences joined the novelty of two presenters - Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin - to impart a higher rate of humor to the show.

What would be the Oscars without controversy? Last week some information reported that the producer of''The Hurt Locker''Nicolas Chartier, e-mailed to academy members asking them to vote for the film, a violation of the rules by which he has repented.

What will be punished? It could be as simple as that the Academy will withdraw the admission ticket to the gala, but a spokeswoman said there will be no decision until after the final votes of the Oscars have been collected on Tuesday.

"It really does seem to be much suspense, but I will say this, there will be tension until the last minute when it is announced the best picture," said Dave Karger, screenwriter of Entertainment Weekly.

In an effort to expand the number of candidate films for best picture Oscar, the Academy has nominated 10 films for the first time since 1943, instead of five, but even so, most industry experts have said the race for best picture has only two horses, and have the advantage''The Hurt Locker.''

The film, which deals with soldiers who defuse bombs in Iraq, has won awards from key associations of producers, directors and writers, which should give you an advantage because many members of these groups are also among the nearly 5,800 voters in the Academy.

But there some expects on "Avatar", for its special effects and 3D technology, won the technical awards, and is difficult to ignore the fact that it is the highest grossing film of all time.

One obstacle would be the preferential voting system, which could lose votes to "The Hurt Locker" and "Avatar"for the film about World War II "Inglorious Bastards, "Precious" an urban drama ''or any of the other ten candidates.
