14. Sports And Wine (Ben Folds Five) Makes the listener want to get up and dance like nothing else matters. Great beat, reminds me a little bit of The Clash's "Hitsville UK"
13. Steven's Last Night In Town (Whatever And Ever Amen) Nobody seems to give this song any credit but I find it genius that Ben Folds and his band (at the time) could put together something so unique with a melody that sounds like a Hebrew dance.
12. Not The Same (Rockin' The Suburbs) Tells the story of the guy who climbed a tree at Robert Sledge's (former band mate) party and came down as a born again Christian. Great song, great harmonies.
11. Annie Waits (Rockin' The Suburbs) "Annie Waits" happens to be the first Ben Folds song I ever heard. It is such an upbeat song that tells two different stories (Annie waits, And he waits).
10. Rock This Bitch (Ben Folds Live, Ben Folds And The WASO Live In Perth) God knows how many different versions there are of this song, a bootleg appears online after almost ever Ben Folds concert. Whenever a fan shouts out "Rock this bitch!", Ben improvises a song on the spot with lyrics and piano, and a band (sometimes a entire symphony orchestra). What comes out is always hysterical, but still manages to sound great.
9. Smoke (Whatever And Ever Amen) Great song, great lyrics. It consists of an extremely sad sounding verse with an upbringing and beautiful chorus.
8. Still Fighting It (Rockin' The Suburbs) A beautiful song written about his son. Accompanied by an incredible music video that gives an even better understanding of the song.
7. Mess (The Unauthorized Biography Of Renhold Messner) A chilling song with a melody that gives the listener pins and needles.
6. Narcolepsy (The Unauthorized Biography Of Renhold Messner) Genius. This song is rocking when played by Ben Folds Five, but when played with the WASO, it shows that it is truly a symphony written by Ben Folds. The song ends with what sounds like a million different vocal parts and instruments building up to an incredible climax.
5. Kate (Whatever And Ever Amen) Just plain great song.
4. Fred Jones Part 2 (Rockin' The Suburbs) Beautiful song about a veteran journalist getting fired from his job at the newspaper. With an amazing harmony done by John McCrea of the band Cake.
3. Brick (Whatever And Ever Amen) Without a doubt the saddest and most well known Ben Folds song of all time. Written about his high school girlfriend and him having an abortion, "Brick" captures the hearts of many.
2. Zak And Sara (Rockin' The Suburbs) The only other song with a beginning like this is "Prelude/Angry Young Man" by Billy Joel. After a song like "Zak And Sara", Ben Folds is certainly on the list of piano rock gods.
*Tie*
1. Gone (Rockin' The Suburbs) An angry breakup song with an amazing chord arrangement and a breakdown that puts tears in your eyes.
1. Philosophy (Ben Folds Five) Ben's message to his former band ("I pushed you cause I loved you guys, I didn't realize you weren't having fun"). A great song with an ending that has everybody jumping.
