The Real Housewives of Atlanta Are Back

But Are They Better Than Ever?

Fans of Bravo TV's Real Housewives franchise have a favorite city (New York is mine) and Atlanta enthusiasts got their long-awaited second season premiere on Thursday night. There's a new Housewife and new drama in the ATL this season, which should keep viewers coming back each week.

During the hiatus between seasons, the Internet was buzzing that NeNe Leakes' home had gone into foreclosure and she and her family had been evicted. Turns out, NeNe moved to a posh new home near fellow cast mate, Lisa Wu, and it was actually NeNe's adversary, Sheree Whitfield, who was forced to search for new digs after her now ex-husband defaulted on mortgage payments. Tonight also brought the return of so-called sixth Atlanta housewife, NeNe's friend, Dwight (I have to say, I'd rather watch him crawl across the floor than New York's sixth housewife, Simon.) Dwight brings a dose of reality and laughs to every scene he's in and I'm definitely looking forward to the bon mots he's sure to drop this season.

We catch up with lovebirds Lisa and her husband, Ed Hartwell. It seems their storyline this season might revolve around the Hartwells expanding their family. Lisa's age is her main concern (she's 38 and her hubby is seven years younger. Hello!) Something tells me there will be an announcement at the reunion special.

While Sheree was portrayed as last season's villain, it seems her former BFF, Kim Zolciak, is being positioned as this season's troublemaker. Apparently, Kim has been going around town talking smack about all her cast mates, including Sheree. For those of us who remember the love fest between Kim and Sheree ("You're beautiful." "No, you're beautiful") it will be interesting to see just how far the bloom comes off that rose (if the previews are indication, pretty far). Former friends, then enemies and now apparently friends again, NeNe and Sheree sit down to kiss and make up and seem to identify Kim as their new nemesis.

Blonde bombshell Kim proved to be a polarizing figure during Season One. Between her chain smoking, ever-present glasses of wine and mystery boyfriend, Big Poppa, we weren't sure what to make of her over-the-top antics. Ridiculed for wearing wigs last season, Kim has decided to launch a line of wigs and visited a local beauty school to learn about hair. She immediately decides she doesn't need to know about hair to sell wigs. I guess kind of like she doesn't need to know about music to be a singer. I'm just saying.

Finally, there's new Housewife, Kandi Burruss. Kandi is a former member of 90's music group Xcape; she later morphed into a Grammy-winning songwriter, penning tunes for N'Sync, Whitney Houston, Destiny's Child and TLC. The recently engaged Kandi's fiancé has six kids and Kandi herself has a six-year old daughter. Too early to tell what she's all about, though the previews show she might mix it up with Nene.

We ended the night with a knock-down, drag out fight between Sheree and her "Independence Party" party planner. What is it with Sheree and party drama? Part of me thought that whole scene was played out for the cameras, as I really can't imagine a professional would ever speak to a client that way, even if it is Sheree.

The season appears to be off to a good start. Let's see if they can maintain the momentum.
