The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season Finale

Tight Wigs, Tight Skirts and Tight Timelines

Well...what a season it has been. We had shifting alliances, wig shifts, wig lines, a new Housewife, wannabe Housewives, unofficial Housewives, Lindsay Lohan's dad, fashion feuds, baby mama drama, daddy drama, alter egos, gay husbands galore and about a million camera-ready showdowns in between. It was quite a ride.

It's down to the wire for the She by Sheree fashion show. Dwight holds court at his Purple Door Salon as the final fittings take place, while Sheree seems distracted and disconnected from the proceedings around her. I think as much as Sheree calls herself a designer and claims to be so hands-on with the line, this strikes me as a vanity project more than anything.

When the season started, rumors were rampant that Lisa and Ed had been evicted from their home. Tonight showed the Hartwell's - well Ed anyway, since Lisa seems not to know the meaning of the word - discussing the need to downsize. They check out Ed's former bachelor pad and make plans to renovate it to their liking.

Tonight was the night for Nene to get in everyone's face, including her husband, Gregg. Nene relayed the details of her visit to Athens, including meeting the man who claims to be her biological father. Gregg makes it clear he doesn't want Nene forging any type of relationship with this man, declaring he's heard the guy was "a nut." Nene is upset by Gregg's lack of support and later schemes to call the guy on the sly. Lisa wisely cautions her not to go there and to give Gregg time to accept the situation.

Kandi celebrated Mother's Day with her family and she was hopeful her mother wouldn't do anything to wreck the day. In a surprise move, Kandi's mom pulls AJ to the side for a chat and unbelievably gives AJ her blessing to marry Kandi. Once again, that impending sense of doom hovered over this scene and in a tragic bit of irony, Kandi's mom was now ready to welcome AJ to the family with open arms. Terribly sad.

Next up on Nene's hit list was Kimberlocks. I am so over these two and I could care less what happened. Nene and Kim apparently had some brouhaha off-camera which resulted in the police being called and fast and furious accusations about Kim hitting Nene and Nene choking Kim (but no wig shifting). Yawn. Seriously. Yawn. The highlight of this tired exchange was the line of the night delivered by Nene: "Is your wig squeezing your head too tight, heifa?" Love it. LOVE IT.

Finally we come to the main event, the She by Sheree fashion show. Sheree showed just how out of touch she was by planning to duck out to head downtown to get her hair done because her hairdresser and gay husband, Lawrence couldn't come to do her hair. Dwight put the hammer down and forced her to stay put. That's like running out on your wedding day to pick up pantyhose. Seriously, Sheree. To round out the episode, Nene picked a fight with Kandi at the fashion show. Kandi wasn't having it, especially when Nene demanded an apology for some real or perceived slight, and she walked away.

Verdict on the fashion show...way, way, WAY more professional looking in terms of the staging than Lisa's high school production. Gotta hand it to Dwight, he brought it. In terms of the clothes, my jaw dropped several times, but not in a good way. And I'll leave it at that.

Next week is The Real Housewives of Atlanta Reunion, part 1. According to Kim's blog, she's going to perform "Don't be Tardy for the Party." I'll need my bottle of wine for that one.
