The Real Housewives of Atlanta's Freaky Side

Wig Parties, More Gay Husbands and the Fashionista Feud Continues

There were a lot of moments in this week's show where I wasn't sure what to think. From Lisa's amateur hour fashion show to Kim's gay husband, it was an episode of "huh?" moments.

We start the hour with Lisa casting models for her fashion show. In a virtual repeat of Sheree's disastrous casting call a few weeks back, all kinds of freaks showed up to earn a spot in Lisa's show. Then again, since the name of Lisa's line is "Closet Freak," it was kind of fitting. At any rate, she finally found some girls capable of working the runway and seems to be on her way to actually pulling her show together.

Nene and Greg puzzle over how to motivate their son, Bryson, to do more than lay on the couch and sleep all day. Greg even wonders if they can put him for bid on Ebay. For all Nene's finger snapping and head rolling, it's clear she's a good mom. I read Nene's book, Never Make the Same Mistake Twice, a few weeks back and motherhood seems to be high on her list of priorities. This situation with Bryson is reminiscent of the issues Tamra Barney had with her slacker son, Ryan, over on the "Real Housewives of Orange County" a few seasons back, though word on the street is he's cleaned up his act. Nene decides to take matters into her own hands and declares her son needs a makeover. She calls in the cavalry, i.e., Dwight, for a head-to-toe overhaul. Honestly, I don't see the appeal of braids and other than that, he didn't look that different to me, but, through the magic of editing, we didn't see the finished product.

Kandi made a cameo appearance this week to discuss production of "Tardy to the Party." To me, Kandi still isn't integrated enough with the other Housewives. Or maybe I'm just waiting for her to have some kind of altercation with someone, anyone. I've heard the finished product, so kudos to Kandi and her crew for turning this hokey little ditty into a halfway decent track.

The feuding fashionistas, Lisa and Sheree, meet up for bit, mostly it seems so Sheree can poke around for information on Lisa's line. I found it funny that Sheree deigned to give Lisa advice on producing a fashion line. After all, it wasn't that long ago that Michael Knight had to school Sheree in the ways of fashion production since Sheree had not clue one. Kim and Sheree conclude Lisa has no style or taste and question why she's even doing a fashion line. Considering that Lisa got the line done in a month and half, I have to agree on that point. What's the rush?

Speaking of Kim, she trots out her gay husband, celebrity hairstylist, Derek J., to discuss her wig, I mean "porno hair" line. This was definitely one of those moments where I cocked my head to the side and let out a confused, "huh?" Those heels! That bag! That throwback to "Flashdance" sweatshirt! Oh. My. Goodness. Later, the wig party gets underway and Nene makes a fool of herself by going a little too far with her impersonation of Kim. I guess it's like she said - blonde wigs do squeeze your brain.

Finally, the day of Lisa's Closet Freak fashion show arrives. Looking at that stage, I was reminded of a high school production of "Streetcar Named Desire," with closets, corsets and chairs all over the stage. Lisa claimed she wanted a Dwight-like production, so why not hire Dwight? Having been to numerous high-end runway shows, I've never seen them staged the way this show was. I have to agree with Dwight - the clothes are the star, not the props. Unfortunately, Bravo gave the show short shrift by not actually showing anything beyond quick glimpses, so it was hard to tell if the clothes were any good or not. Although, when Lisa went to visit her designer for a progress report prior to the show, I was not impressed by the cheap looking prints they chose. Sheree showed her true colors by sashaying in two hours late. It was great when Lisa's friend called Sheree out on her behavior and her reaction said it all; she never had any intention of supporting Lisa in this endeavor, even though Lisa went to her non-show last season.

Next week, Kim faints and well...Kim faints.
