The Real Lives of the "Desperate Housewives"

Lisa Carey
Are you desperate for some "Desperate Housewives?" Sure, Super Bowl Sunday was filled with good food, fun, friends and football and the SAG 2011 Awards were entertaining and charming, but "Desperate Housewives" fans are so desperate for news of their favorite foursome that many of us have even been caught watching reruns.

What have our favorite Desperate Housewives been up to when they are not on Wisteria Lane? Eva Longora (Gabrielle Solis) will be in good company presenting at "The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards, live from the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011 (8:00-11:30 PM, ET/delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network. According to a press release by CBA Longoria will be presenting with Zac Brown, Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Clay Matthews, Matthew Morrison, Ryan Seacrest, Jason Segel, Keith Urban and will.i.am.

Longoria seems to recovering from her recent divorce (granted Jan 28, 2011) from basketball star Tony Parker and spending time with Penelope Cruz's brother Eduardo. According to People Magazine the two were "flirty" last week at a cabaret show in Hollywood. Maybe it was even "flirty" fun in the sun as the two enjoyed a yachting trip off the coast of Miami, FL recently.

Terri Hatcher's role as Susan Delfino is making its way into her real life, as she joins television husband James Denton on Access Hollywood and discusses "Comedy for a Cure," an upcoming star studded, celebrity event to raise awareness and fund for the research and treatment of Tuberous Sclerosis. TSC is considered one of the leading causes for autism, epilepsy and possibly even cancer.

A little bit of "Bree" was being channeled as Marcia Cross spent some time gardening with her twin daughters, planting yellow and mauve pansies in her front yard. Things may not be so peaceful for this character when we next see her on Wisteria Lane as Bree attempts to keep the secret of his past and his son from boyfriend Keith played by Brian Austin Green. Cross admits to having kept a family secret in real life by not telling her daughters about her real life husband's (Tom Mahoney) battle with cancer. With his health improving Marcia says , "My kids are great, work is great, my husband's really, really fantastic," and "I'm very blessed. All of my dreams have come true."

Vanessa Williams travelled through time and space, to find out "Who do you think you are?" She discovered that one ancestor, Samuel Fields became a Tennessee Senator, following the Civil War and yet another early ancestor was a free black who joined the Union Army during the Civil War. Both are impressive achievements, considering the times. With those genetics, it is no wonder that in 1984 Williams became the first African American Miss America.

As contracts are up for renewal, hopefully "Desperate Housewives" fans won't find that they are truly desperate, because if they think a few weeks was a long time to go without the fabulous four on Wisteria Lane what will they do if this highly placed television drama gets dumped. Right now, "Desperate Housewives" is conspicuously absent from the lineup of ABC television shows that will be back for the 2011-2012 season. According to a report by TV Guide "new ABC Entertainment president Paul Lee told reporters he wasn't quite there yet regarding a renewal for Desperate Housewives." Hopefully seven truly is a lucky number for the fans and cast of this show. We aren't the only ones, series creator Marc Cherry, says "he realistically needs to know by the end of February if he will be ending the current season with another nail-biting cliffhanger or wrapping up his Wisteria Lane shenanigans for good. I specifically asked [ABC] to please get the deal done as quickly as possible so I can know. I would hate to have to wrap up Desperate Housewives in an untidy fashion just because they weren't able to make a deal. But everyone's pretty optimistic a deal will be made." The fans are pretty optimistic too!
