The Real Michael James Perry

Someone I'm Proud to Know and Call My Friend

K. D. Adams
About 4 or 5 months ago I came across this website called "savemichaelperry.info" and it peaked my curiosity. Now I'm not one who goes around looking for prison pen pals but after reading Michael's case I just had to find out more. Michael Perry was convicted (wrongly in my opinion) of the capital murder of Sandra Stotler in 1999 and was sentenced to death. He has been at the Polunski unit in Livingston, Texas for almost 7 years awaiting execution. I wrote Michael a letter not thinking I would get a response and to my surprise I did.

The first thing that Michael did was set up his boundaries which I thought was odd at first but made sense later. He made it very clear that , yes, he wanted friends, but more importantly, he wanted supporters. He needs to raise money for his defense. One thing you need to know about him is that he is brutally honest to the point of being offensive. He came right out and asked me if I was gay ( I'm not ) and explained that he was in a relationship with a girl that he hoped to marry and was very happy. Now here's a guy wanting to raise money but he is going to do it on his terms and not anyone else's. He even made it a point to tell me that he doesn't "slut" himself out for money. I don't mean to make him sound stubborn, just determined.

When you first get a letter from him, you will notice that you're corresponding with a very intelligent young man. I even commented on how well his vocabulary is. He, of course, disagreed. The second thing that you'll notice is that he has a great sense of humor. While he likes to talk about himself he is not a self centered person. Most of the time he is picking on himself. He once told me why he types his letters instead of hand writing them and he explained that "I write like I talk, I talk fast and it usually comes out bad".

I told you that Michael's boundaries seemed odd to me but as I got to know him better, I realized that he trusts almost no one. If you read his bio, you'll see he's had one hell of a life so far and this murder conviction was just the icing on the cake. He has slowly opened up to me in the last few months and I've gotten to know him better than most. I feel privileged to have gained his trust. Since then, I have seen a person who is terrified he will be killed for a crime he didn't commit. I see a person who, while he is a man , has a lot of 'little boy" left in him and I mean that in a good way. He can be mischievous, imaginative, and down right silly at times.

Michael has a beautiful spirit and a caring soul. While this man sits on death row he still worries about my health and how I'm doing. He worries about his other friends and supporters as well (Emily, TAZ and Kris to name a few). This is the kind of person Michael Perry is and I am very proud to call him my friend and my little brother. I pray for him every night and I know in my heart he will one day walk out of prison a free man. The most important thing you need to know about Michael Perry is that he is no killer and I don't believe he has a violent bone in his body. Some may disagree with me but they don't know him like I do.

Wonder if this aired on Court TV? This may be interesting to follow. I am against the death penalty and I pray that he gets out of it and his appeals come through.

We already know that Michael used Adam's name to get out of jail, that's nothing new and he did admit to it. So what's your point?

  • Emily2/20/2008

    Maybe your name is Amanda.

I do know Jasons mom sortof. But it is not me. I can not tell my name, because of my parents, but I do know what happened. Michael (we called him Perry) told me, and some others, at Nite Life. He was there with Kristin after he got out of jail. Her little sister was also with them. She picked him up. Jason was not with them. He was bragging to us all about bonding out using Adams name and drivers license. Adam bought some ICE from Perry.. and owed him money. That is why he had the vehicle. At least that is what he said.

Kathy, I hope you read this because I owe you a BIG apology. I jump to conclusions and insulted you without giving it a second thought. You did not deserve to be attacted like that and I am truely sorry. We will never agree on what happened between Michael and Jason but that does not give me the right to speak to you the way I did, especially when it wasn't even you. I am, sometimes, too over protective of Michael and let my temper get the best of me. I hope you will accept my apology, but if you don't , I understand.

Kathy--I knew 'Knowledge of the truth' was not you. I should have said so in my comment. I know that although you have very different views on the case, you have never wished death on Michael. I respect you for that very much.

  • Jasons mom- My name is Kathy2/18/2008

I do not believe I have met you, and really glad I have not. Michael Perry. did live off people here in Conroe. He lived in trunks of vehicles and wherever he could sponge off someone. My son took him in when he had nowhere to go. I do not believe he ever worked a day other than selling drugs. He was involved in a couple drive by shootings. But I am not Knowledge of the truth.. sorry. Guess someone else knows also what kind of person he was. I did not know him that well when he was here in Conroe. Never claimed to. I am 52 yrs old and very capable of signing my name. You have your beliefs and I have mine. You only have Michaels side of the story, so therefore you should not judge. And as far as Emily goes, I wish her the best in their marriage, That is her business not mine.

Knowledge of Truth-I don't feel it's necessary to justify my relationship with Michael to anyone. While I'm touched by your concern for me, I suggest you save your sympathy for someone who needs it. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go practice my prison slang and round up some more jailhouse pen-pals. Being a groupie is hard work LOL

Your knowledge of truth is more like a bunch of bullshit. I know Michael and he doesn't have a vicious bone in his body. Yes, he made some mistakes in the past but that doesn't make him a killer and there is no one that deserves a state sanctioned murder. As far as Emily goes, she is one of the smartest and sweetest people I know and she is no "jailhouse groupie". I suppose you think Montgomery County has abosolutely the best Sheriffs Dept.in Texas, don't you? Thanks for writhing in God, It's nice to see such judgemental people are still around and shooting off theie mouths when they have no clue what there talking about. Hmm....I wonder if this is Jason's mom another piece of trash.
