If Tyra Banks is the slightest bit at fault, it is only because she may know a secret about breaking into the industry that she does not disclose to the people competing on America's Next Model. Tyra and other model industry insiders probably know that the models chosen on America's Next Top Model would have very little chance of getting into the majority of modeling agencies. Why? Aren't these ladies georgeous? They sure are, but it takes more than looks to become the next Tyra Banks. The contestants neglect to notice the following facts:
Many of America's Next Top Model contestants and winners are just too old.
In the modeling field, most of the talent has been scouted by their teenage years. For instance, Gemma Ward, an Australian star, was recruited out of middle school.
American's Next Top Model contestants and winners weigh too much for today's modeling standards.
In this industry, having an eating disorder is not uncommon and the people on America's Next Top Model are just too healthy looking to compete with women who will starve themselves to stay in the business.
America's Next Top Model contestants and winners are unfortunately American.
American is just not in anymore. Foreign models like Gisele and others have introduced new facial features and runway walking styles to the industry. The clear skinned, small feature, and strapping American look is just not in anymore, and it hasn't been for years.
America's Next Top Model contestants fail to realize the following major obvious fact.
The days of being a supermodel like Tyra Banks, Christie Turlington, and Cindy Crawford are over. Those days were supermodel heydays. Now people would rather see celebrities on the covers of magazines and in makeup commercials than an unknown, but beautiful model. Celebrity culture has been pushed and accepted by many members of society through numerous outlets that include gossip magazines and websites. Editors are practically tormented by focus group polls where a celebrity getting just a little interest will overthrow a georgeous model when it come to magazine sales.
Out of all of these reasons, the most ironic is that the title "America's Next Top Model" really makes no sense. The next top model is not an American. She is not even a model, but a celebrity who may not even have a hit movie out. Perhaps American models will make a comeback, but for now America's Next Top Model Contestants are wasting their time.

Post a CommentIf the person who wrote this is a Cornell graduate who majored in English, then why can't she spell the word 'gorgeous' correctly....hhhhmmmm....My guess is that you did not matriculate there.
super models are cool man
be with him
u should go on
this seems so true now that it is brought to my eyes i always wanted to be a model and i watch the show faithfully but its like how can u just go on a show or rather contest with no experience and become the next top model of America this shows power is completely over rated
This years winner was an anorexic looking foreigner. I don't think she was fat at all. But I found it odd, I wanted the girl from Russia to win.
Anyways great piece, they must have read this, because this years winner was foreign. lol. ;)
