The Real World: Brooklyn on MTV

A Preview of the Latest Real World Installment

Jamie Brown
For years, dedicated The Real World watchers have begged the MTV network to produce a The Real World season based in Brooklyn, New York. The very first The Real World season was shot in New York City, Manhattan, and that was arguably one of the best seasons ever produced.

Finally, in 2009, MTV is releasing what we've all been waiting for: The Real World : Brooklyn! Yay!

The new The Real World Brooklyn cast includes:

Katelynn Cusanelli: An Italian transwoman (man turned woman)

J.D. Ordonez: The gay guy

Chet Cannon: A self-described "punk rock Mormon" who is a conservative Republican (can you see the drama forming already?)

Scott Herman: A fit model and actor

Devyn Simone: The only black cast member, a former beauty queen

Ryan Conklin: An army man

Baya Voce: White female hip hop DJ

Sarah Rice: Artist with a history of sexual abuse who formerly dated women, now dates men

Now you know that all sounds interesting already. I can already see some tensions building between Chet, the Republican mormon who wants to seem "cool" and J.D. the gay guy along with Katelynn, the transwoman. We will have to see how it all plays out.

I will say that I am surprised and dismayed that not one of the seven cast members is from Brooklyn, or the New York area at all. I think that one of the best aspects of the first The Real World season in Manhattan New York was the fact that three out of the seven cast members were from the New York tri-state area. It added a little zest to the show. But I will still give The The Real World Brooklyn a chance.

I have been waiting for a new The Real World ever since my strong appetite for reality television was satisfied by The The Real World Hollywood last season. The The Real World Hollywood was definitely one of the best seasons by far. So the Brooklyn cast is going to have some really big boots to fill.

I am guessing that the The Real World Brooklyn has chosen a house somewhere in the nice area of Brooklyn, such as Prospect Park, downtown Brooklyn, or Brooklyn Heights. Too bad The The Real World Brooklyn couldn't be based in the

real Brooklyn New York, the part where nobody really wants to be late at night with a bunch of cameras following them. Now that would be pure entertainment. But too risky; the Bunim-Murray people know what they're doing. The The Real World Brooklyn will premiere January 7, 2009 on MTV.
