The Reality Behind "Law and Order"

The Reality in Handling Real-Life Law Issues and "Law and Order"

Malina Debrie
While most of television today is centered around reality series with no foundation or bearing on the crisis our world seems to be having with crimes, weather, people and just about every area of real life and it's devastating issues, Law and Order is one of those series that not only draws your attention to the horror of life it provides a little moral guidance in addition to detailing life's ugly reality and how there are some who take the law seriously and work hard each day in their unyielding attempts to bring criminals to justice.

It's not something easy to bear when you hear of a young mother who murders her newborn, or a child who kills a parent, or even a Caucasian couple who adopts an African American child, showers him with love and affect then kills him for the soul purpose of obtaining the insurance money in support of their KKK beliefs. All of this is the reality that has been brought out on a television series: Law and Order.

Then to actually read that these stories; the stories, characters and lines are true based on true facts obtained from cases prosecuted in courts around the country are disheartening. The Law and Order series at times might move to add a few unique slants to these stories to keep their audience happy and following them from week to week, but when seeking out the facts behind the stories, those few lines added are a mere dot in the whole picture. The reality is, the stories told are generally based on fact and not fiction. The Law and Order series brings these cases to the public weekly.

Law and Order the series began in the early 90's. When the producers of the original version realized the popularity of the show. They went on and produced a series of phenomenal clones which continue today. While the many shows on television today seem to be limited in value, Law and Order, in this one individuals opinion is worthy of a few minutes of my valuable time.

It's worth watching because is symbolic of the degradation of our society. It makes you sit back and wonder why. Then it also makes the sane mind begin to feel that something has to be done. A person with moral values and the desire to make a change cannot just sit back and watch the real issues of life depicted in the series and not feel compelled to make a move.

While I am not by any means a television fanatic and Law and Order is simply put, one of the few shows I will spend valuable time watching, it is one of those shows that makes me want to change the way life for our children and their children seems to be spiraling downward and out of control.

Not only does the series touch on murder, rape, pornography, pedophilia, sex trafficking and other slants of moral decay, it also highlights the total disregard for life our society today not only by those on the street, but by some we rely on to guarantee our safety. And even then, some who claim to love God and man will experiment on children while playing on the needs of families. In one episode of Law and Order, a large medical firm acquired the approval of parents under the guise of helping to find a cure for cancer, obtain signatures to experiment on their children through illegal means. After wards, the children acquired cancer through the use of the very means they were assured their children would be secure.

Good points. The sad reality is some of these tragedies don't even exist in some peoples' minds. Showing them these things actually happen and on a daily basis is the only way to confront the issues.

I love this show but the part that always challenges me with legal shows is the deal making. How did deal making get introduced into the mix.

Never viewed it. Don't like to vist places where people hurt others just for the sake of it, even when only on TV. Knowing that it reflects real situations makes it even worse. That changes not at all the quality of your writing, my friend. That is always good. Thanks.

I enjoy clearly fictitious pieces. As Willy Wonka said, "A little nonsense - now and then - is cherished by - the wisest men."
