The Reality of Business Opportunity Leads

Denise Nuttall
It seems that people have caught the work from home fever, and right and left folks are scrambling around trying to get themselves set up in a home based business. Many of the business opportunities out there, and much of the hype that surrounds it comes from those who promote MLMs (Multi-Level Marketing) and one of the primary ways that MLMs try to grow their businesses with by using business opportunity lead suppliers.

Business opportunity leads are also sometimes referred to as biz/op leads and what they are is a listing of people who are actively searching for a business opportunity that they can work from home. These leads have at least a name and an email address, if they came from an internet source, or a name and phone number, and sometimes these leads will have complete information including name, email, phone and street address.

You can buy business opportunity lead lists from a number of companies, and while the people on those lists are purported to be only those looking for a legitimate work from home business, that is not always what you will get. Unfortunately, some lead companies get people to sign up for the list by offering gift cards or high-ticket items for "free" but then people are taken through a series of offer after offer, and rarely to their qualify to get their free gift, but they have given out their contact information and their names will be sold.

The dirty little secret is that the personal information that was entered in an effort to get their free item ends up being sold and if they happened to click a survey question in those may pages of offers that somehow, even remotely, related to a home based business, they landed on a biz/op lead list.

The good news is that not all business opportunity lead vendors operate in this underhanded way. On the internet you will find many links and advertisements and banners that take you to a page that talks about the benefits of home based businesses and gives you an opportunity to enter your contact details in order to receive more information about the work from home opportunity. People who respond to these kinds of advertisements can actually turn out to be valuable leads and potential partners in your new business.

Many people who are new to MLM, or network marketing, think that because there is such huge interest in real work from home business opportunities, that they will quickly and easily find people from their business opportunity lead lists to jump into the business and start working hard right along side of them. This is an area where the promises are great, but the results are usually quite disappointing.

The reality is that with anything that involves any type of sales, even the soft and friendly sales of your network marketing company, comes down to a numbers game. Business opportunity leads can result in finding a new person to join your business, but know that you will have to go through dozens of them to find the gem.
