The Reality Show Television Trap

Rana Wiseone
I am so tired of the Television Trap. The T.V. Programs that we subject ourselves to literally give me a headache. The reality shows play over and over on the screen. If you missed an episode of "I Love New York", "I Love Money"," Hogan Knows Best", "Rock of Love 1and 2"," Flavor of Love"," Flipping Out" one of my favorites, don't worry it will be on again and again. The Television Shows are traps for our minds to forget about sustenance and nourishment for our brains. The Reality Show Television trap allows us to dumb ourselves down. We are creating a society of really ignorant children by allowing our children's fragile minds to be influenced by the foolish adults on the "Bad Girls Club" women doing any and every nasty thing they can think of. I saw a young girl on "You Tube" wearing a wig, imitating "New York" from the "I Love New York" show. I will admit I allowed my children to poison their minds with the same addictive junk. My young daughters don't need to see women on these shows like the "Bachelorette" swapping saliva enriched kisses and going to private rooms with 30 different men. My young African American sons definitely don't need to see Flavor Flav with a leopard cloak, a gold king's crown on, with greasy lips from smacking and chomping down on fried chicken on national television just to make money. His actions only perpetuate the old stereo-type of black people eating chicken and watermelon. In my day Flavor Flav came out with positive messages in the rap songs he was a part of in" Public Enemy". My children would never know good facts about Flavor Flav if I had not went to "You Tube" to show them old videos like, "Fight the Power".

Remember these shows have a subconscious impact on our lives and our thoughts. If we aren't careful these shows will dictate our children's decisions in life. The next thing you know little Shirley is pulling up her skirt for every Tim, Jermaine, and Rashad and pregnant not knowing who her "baby daddy is". Little Rashad has become the womanizing player of the year right before your eyes. It is not too late to pull ourselves and our children out of the fiery furnace of the Reality Show Television Trap. Turn to T.V. land. Show your children old shows with lessons like" Different Strokes"", The facts of Life"," Sanford and Son", "The Brady Bunch", "Andy Griffith,"" What's Happening"," Alice". There is nothing like an old show, to teach good life lessons. These shows can be rented from" Netflix", some can be watched on "You Tube". If you have to watch Television, stay away from the Reality Traps.

We are glamorizing this behavior by indulging in the delicious addictive drama on the screen. Meanwhile, there are real issues we could be attending to in our reality. The reality is there are people in our midst who need Real helping hands, Real love, Real friendships, and hoping to find Real happiness in their Real lives.
