The Reasons I Love My Cuisinart Food Processor

The reasons I love my Cuisinart food processor are numerous. Although it is ancient -it's been with me for over two decades now - I am amused to note that the original design of Cuisinart has not changed much since then. My Cuisinart still works really well, and has helped me prepare numerous soups and sauces over the years.

This kitchen gadget first appeared on the culinary scene in the early '80s. According to Cuisinart UK , its creator was an American engineer by the name of Carl Sontheimer. Mr. Sontheimer collaborated with Julia Child and James Beard to bring the machine to its current level of excellence. Perhaps it was the culinary input from these two cooking titans that has made the fundamental design of the Cuisinart so difficult to improve upon.

I still remember the spirited debates everywhere in the 1980s as to whether using the Cuisinart was acceptable in creating haute cuisine. I do not see it much in restaurant kitchens, but I suspect the reason for that is the amount of time it takes to clean it. However, home cooks everywhere swear by it and many great amateur cooks I know use it frequently.

The Cuisinart is a great appliance for chopping or pureeing anything quickly. It is particularly good for pasta sauces. I recently made a really great steak sauce called chimichurri in my Cuisinart. Chimichurri (which is from Argentina) is made of Italian flat parsley, garlic, dried oregano, lemon juice, salt, pepper, olive oil and red wine vinegar. First the parsley is coarsely chopped in the Cuisinart. Then the rest of the ingredients are added and pureed. The final result is a light green sauce that is amazing not only on steak but on pasta as well. I loved the fact that I could use the same sauce on the steak as the pasta for my dinner. This is the main advantage of the Cuisinart - it compresses a lot of the steps required in preparing dinner into one or two maneuvers. This is another one of the reasons I love my Cuisinart food processor.

The Cuisinart can also be used to make different kinds of breads. It takes a lot of the labor out of chopping and mixing, and can even help out with the kneading, if your bread recipe involves yeast. I even have a recipe for pizza dough, which I am eager to try.

The last of the reasons I love my Cuisinart food processor is the solid boost it gives to moms everywhere. If you have a baby in the house, the Cuisinart is great for preparing baby food. This gives you ultimate control over what goes into your baby's diet - no more grabbing those glass jars filled with God-only-knows-what off the supermarket shelves! And if you have a child who is a picky eater, this appliance will definitely help you sneak some veggies into his or her diet, and broaden his or her palate in the process.

My Cuisinart has expanded my culinary horizons, and it can do the same for you as well. I don't know how I ever lived without it!

Great article. I have a food processor still sitting in the box from last Christmas, I keep thinking about digging it out, but I have never used one before. I think I will give it a try.
