The Recession is Far from Being Over

The United States economy is in its worst economic condition since the great depression. This country has experienced many recessions in the past but none have been as serious as the one we are currently in. Recently, a team of economists a team of economists announced that the recession had officially ended in June of 2009. This can't be true! If the recession ended almost 16 months ago I can assure you that many people living in this country were not aware of this. This past summer was supposed to be one of economic recovery but it was far from that. The United States economy is showing know signs of ending anytime soon.

I believe that we cannot just use two consecutive quarters of the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) as primary criteria for evaluating the state of our economy. There are several factors that have contributed to the recession in the United States such as unemployment, mortgage foreclosures, and decreased consumer spending. Now these are very clear indicators that the recession has not ended. These muckraker media outlets can no longer fool the hardworking people in this country into believing that the recession is over. We are on the front lines of this economic war; the effects of the current recession can be felt by us on a daily basis. The fact that the United States is fighting bi-lateral wars in both Afghanistan and Iraq is not helping the current state of the economy. I believe this is one of the first times that a war had done more harm than good for the American economy. Not only is the recession far from being over, but also we may be entering the early stages of a economic depression.

Economists, many of which have commonly been referred to as experts. Honestly in my opinion an expert can be defined as someone with a briefcase that is 100 miles or more away from home. These economists don't know anything! They cannot relate to hardworking people. Some of these people probably have no need to go to an ATM machine on a regular basis. It is strange that the United States government issued financial bailouts to everybody except the hard working people in this country. Now that we are in an economic crisis who is going to bail us out? I believe that the American economy will be in a recession for the next 5-10 years. We will see this recession come to an end when we see an influx of new jobs, stability brought back to the housing market, and restoration of consumer confidence. Until then we will continue to struggle as a country economically.
