The Recurring Dream

R. J. Gardiner
Every night I am forced to act
In a play that no one sees
I recite the same lines
Beneath the burning spotlight
And in vain I whisper pleas

To stop the show
But no one listens

Even my fellow actors
Seem resigned
To continue this pointless farce
Within my mind

Which is the stage
Still no one listens

When the drama ends
No clapping resounds
There is only silence
And dread that abounds
