The Refrigerator from Ruin

What Goes on in Your Fridge at Night?

Bo Gorcesky

In the deep pit of the fridge there lays an opened box of baking soda that has fermented the large white cooling device with its ancient evoking powers to conceal scents and extend life.

For ages, the human owners of this obese apparatus of appliances have unknowingly fueled a ferocious and demonic soul that preys upon the remains of animal flesh and toxic chemical byproducts.

Such a powdery concoction of Arms and Hammers can only be brought about by evil spirits that fight against God himself. Demons who play tricks on lives of that human master, but, are unfortunately too stupid to realize that they only affect his life when he is sleeping. In the wee hours of the night when man, the owner of the fridge is out cold, the Leftovers are hot and heated up.

But to fight against such evil atrocities of the appliance kind, there is an angelic force that oversees the dominion of the fridge. Unfortunately, ages ago, this force was ransacked from their realm of the crisper drawer and they were banished to the frozen tundra of the freezer, where the Organics were forced to make their domain until mankind no longer replenished their ranks.

Night after night, once their human master forever shuts them into darkness until breakfast on the following morning, these two forces engage into an undying civil war. The Tops versus the Bottoms, Organics versus the Leftovers, the Pure versus the Bleak, or the Just versus the Righteous, whatever you may call it, there is a battle that rages over the dominion of that domesticated appliance. A battle that cares not about the losses of its warriors, as their ranks will always be replenished by their human master's next grocery store run.

On one side of this baking soda fueled barracks would be of the barbaric Leftovers. They have fought and established the claim of their shelves and drawers in the precious temperature cooled environment. Their leader, Admiral Hot Sauce was the longest running condiment in the fridge. He had survived the great spring cleaning from years past, and had enjoyed a long existence of a rarely used condiment (except on a monthly Taco night), which preserved his existence, power, strength and abilities within the refrigerator door. A position that he held so proudly, that he orchestrated the banishment of the Organics ages ago, and caused their pure bodies to be frozen until deemed to be thawed.

The other side of this war was led by the great Organic leader named Lord Salisbury, the majestic. The Lord and Admiral were close friends and allies at one time. But during the great spring cleaning, Admiral Hot Sauce wanted power so bad, that he abandoned his friend to lie out on a shelf, instead of hiding with his Marinade mistresses with Hot Sauce on the door. Their human master swept down to make the annual cleaning and noticed the Salisbury steak lying out on a shelf that was oozing blood to the drawers below. The meat was still good, so the master decided to throw the meat into the freezer. But, night after night, Lord Salisbury strives to reclaim his land, and continues to hide amongst the frozen thick walls of the freezer and blends into the frost of his home in fear that he may be thawed, cooked and lose out on their existence.

Even though both sides of this war were somewhat worried about being taken by the master to be cooked or thrown away, each one knew that the blessed powers of the baking soda would make them reborn once their fridge was replenished with that same food. Sometimes it would be weeks before a soldier was returned to either ranks, and sometimes, there were always new and exotic foods that were presented to the armies, so that they may fight for the dominance of the refrigerator's territories. But the purpose of the war always remained the same, the Leftovers saw dominance over the lower half of the fridge, and they lived in a cool and crisp environment. The Organics always fought their way to reclaim their native lands and escape their frozen prison of the Freezer.

Both sides forever locked in combat, until one day there would be a victory for their human master to decide which food needs to be properly frozen, and which deserves to be eaten daily. Only the food could help decided that battle for him, as small strategically balanced battles are waged each night over territories and espionage to see which food would live out a better existence. Which food would best deserve proper treatment and replenishment, depending on how delicious they were. These are the battles within the Refrigerator from Ruin; stay tuned to see which of your basic food groups will prevail.
