The Repercussions of the Terrorist Attack at Fort Hood

America Still Stands Strong and Willing

The aftermath of the shooting at Fort Hood will be felt for quite some time. According to CNN, Army Major Nidel Malik Hasan, a devoted Muslim warned other members of the military that Muslims should not have to go to Iraq, Afghanistan or any other country to fight against other Muslims.

Major Nidel Malik Hasan born of Palestine decent walked into the processing center at Fort Hood and opened fire on everyone and ended up killing thirteen people and wounding another twenty-nine. The suspect was shot and is recovering in an Army hospital located in San Antonio, while those families of the dead and injured have to deal with the pain caused by the tragedy.

This tragedy has left many questions unanswered such as why did he do this? Was it in the name of Allah or did he have orders by other known terrorists to carry out the event. Whatever the reason we as Americans feel vulnerable again just like the events of September 11, 2001 has left a sense of really no place is safe no more in this world.

Our way of life as Americans will be under attack for rest of our lives. Our enemies are not known by name, but live among us without much indication of what they're planning or have already done. Our security is breached everyday just as this Army Major proved by carrying out such a deadly attack on a military base.

The events of Fort Hood have opened a whole new realm in combating terrorism by now having military officials watching and questioning every Muslim or Middle Eastern in our branches of service. It may not be said out loud, but now every American Muslim in our military will be watched, followed and all their communications will be intercepted to just find out if they're loyal to America or have other plans in carrying out a terrorist attack.

The higher powers in the ranks of the United States Government will be politically correct in saying this is an isolated event. However, you can bet that American Muslims in the military will be watched and spied upon from now on. The soldiers serving beside American Muslims will always be cautious and never trust them from this point on.

The real question is America any safer than it was since September 11, 2001? We took the fight abroad so that may have deterred some attacks, but now the United States will now be watching every Muslim living in the United States because we never know where the next attack will come from.

The Fort Hood tragedy will create more bureaucracy in trying to implement security procedures at military bases around the world. However, Americans will never be safe because we live in a country of diverse cultures and backgrounds looking for a better life.

America will continue the fight of freedom even though enemies from within want to destroy our culture. Terrorist will never win because we as Americans from different cultures pull together for a better tomorrow and future.

I disagree that the military is a system of death. The beauracracy (aka Politics) that controls the military is what causes the death. The military gives hope to men and women for a brighter future. Without the military many would be lost to crime, drugs, and all the other issues in the world. The military offered a way out. Yes, they may have to do jobs they don't agree or like. Don't we all???

I hope that we learn from this tragedy, tending to be one who tries to think what we can do to change things for the better. There were (from what I read) red flags that should have indicated that this man was having potential problems.
