The Republican Party's Contract with America

The focus of this article is the Contract With America 2010. Anyone who wants to read the Contract of America 2010 could download the document at

This contract contains several specific promises along with proposed legislation for a balanced budget, a citizen birth amendment for the US Constitution, a proposed use of funds and deficit reduction, proposed tip tax reform, a second amendment affirmative action, legislation to kill the bail out, legislation to privatize Freddie Mac and Fannie May, legislation to split commercial banking and investment banking, and legislation to prevent fraudulent devaluation of stock prices.

Now let's focus on the seven oaths in the Contract of America 2010.

The first oath mentions elected officials who disregard the US Constitution. No public official, Democratic or Republican, has ever disregarded the US Constitution.

The second oath is about the war on terror. That oath has been fulfilled by both Democratic Presidents and Republican Presidents.

The third oath is about fiscal responsibility but does not address all the issues. It only target's Democratic legislation regardless of how successful that legislation has been. It is a statement about the Republican platform and not a statement about fiscal responsibility.

The fourth oath is about reducing taxes.

The fifth oath is about the rights of all citizens and legal immigrants.

The sixth oath is about energy independence and doesn't place enough emphasis on environment protection.

The seventh oath is about the right to bear arms.

The first significant statement in the Contract With America 2010 talks about the interpretation of the US Constitution as intended by our Founding Fathers. The Father of the Republican party is Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson was in France during the summer of 1789. He returned to the US and in 1990 began the first Secretary of State under President George Washington.

Thomas Jefferson opposed the fiscal policies of both the Founding Father of our nation, Alexander Hamilton, and the Father of our nation, George Washington. With all due respect, who would know more about the intent of the US Constitution than the Founding Father of our nation, Alexander Hamilton, who played a major role in the writing of the US Constitution and the writing of the Federalist Papers? With all due respect, who would know more about the intent of the US Constitution than the Father of our nation, George Washington?

Thomas Jefferson's interpretation of the Constitution is not the original intent. The original intent is defined in the Federalist Papers and by those who argued the issues and wrote the US Constitution.

The Contract With America 2010 states that every part of the Contract With America 1995 was fulfilled.

The 12 year term of Congress members that is a part of the Contract With America 1995 was not fulfilled. It was declared unconstitutional by the US Supreme Court. And it never became a new amendment to the US Constitution.

Furthermore, the Contract With America 1995, states that the Republicans will transform the way Congress works. It speaks about respect the faith and sharing the values of the American family. Yet, too many right wing Republicans are trying to shove their Christian values down the throats of every American family via adding God to the US Constitution.

The Republicans did not end big spending. They replaced it with huge tax cuts thereby starving the Federal Government of badly needed funds and increasing the national debt. This starvation of funds makes it difficult to resolve any recession or depression.

The Republicans are too easy with the public's money using it to promote the exportation of jobs and industry to foreign nations and using it to interfere with free enterprise via tax incentives for specific purposes which could be interpreted as tax penalties for those businesses that do not follow big government's directives.

The Republicans were a miserable failure at ending the cycle of scandal and disgrace. This fact is self evident.

Obviously, all laws that apply to the rest of the nation do not apply equally to Congress. This is evident via what Congress members could say about each other and the President without fear of being sued for libel.

The taking back of our streets act was obviously a huge failure. All one has to do is read the local newspaper or listen to the news media to realize this fact.

The personal responsibility act punishes the children by not providing increased AFDC for additional children. It's the Republican flawed idea that they can resolve any social issue by cutting funds.

With regard to Social Security, it wouldn't be in bad financial state if Congress hadn't borrowed money from the trust fund over the past half century.

Hence the Contract with America 1995 was a miserable failure just as I expect the Contract with America 2010 to be.
