The Resort at Port Ludlow Events for October 2010
A Lineup of Themed Dinners, Daily Specials and Wine & Cheese Tastings
Friday, October 8 - "Cheese and Wine Mania":
This event is a standout this month. Cheese and wine enthusiasts rejoice; enjoy a pairing of 40 different artisan cheeses from around the world with 30 wines from the Northwest. Selections will be presented by wine and cheese aficionados from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. $39 per guest.
Cheese selections vary from an old cheddar bandage wrap from the San Joaquin Valley, California that was rated "Best Farmhouse Cheese in America" three years in a row to hard to find cheeses from around the world. Learn cheese facts that explain anything from cheese making techniques to fun cheese trivia. For instance, the cheesemaker responsible for the Cone de Port Aubry cheese, from Loire Valley France, applied some inventive methods in his initial cheese making efforts to drain the fresh curds from this cheese. He used his wife's brassiere cup as a solution. Today the cheese is made in a real mold, but we can thank the well-endowed Madame for its original shape.
Wine will be poured from various regional winemakers including the following: A Maurice Cellars, Anne Amie Vineyards, Belle Pente Winery and Vineyard, Domain Pouillon, Harbinger Winery, Kyra Wines, Novelty Hill Wines, L'Ecole No41, Three Rivers Winery, Basel Cellars Chatter Creek, Christina James Winery and Gamache Vintners.
The following knowledgeable cheese and wine connoisseurs will host this event:
o Francois Kerautret, arguably the most knowledgeable cheese expert on the West Coast.
o Rachael Van Laanen, owner, farmer and cheesemaker of Mystery Bay Farm.
o Mark Kieras, sommelier, among other regional winemakers.
Call for reservations, 360.437.7412. Visit the website to book a special cheese and wine tasting package inclusive of the event and an overnight stay at the Inn At Port Ludlow. Rates start at $232.
