Nestled in the countryside outside of Auburn, NY is The Restaurant at Elderberry Pond. This is definitely off the beaten path but if you are lucky enough to find it, you will not be disappointed. As you drive through the back roads, you are transported to a simpler time and then you see their small restaurant sign and you have arrived. As you pull into the gravel driveway, the beautiful restaurant is situated on the knoll of the hill surrounded by mature trees and lush country gardens. There was a full parking lot full of cars which is always a good sign.

The hostess graciously welcomed us and allowed us to select our table. In addition to their larger dining room there is additional seating in a smaller room where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the trees while you dine. You could tell that this is their most popular room so if you go for dinner, make reservations and request a seat in the "sun room". Even though it was a bit chilly for a July afternoon, we requested to sit outside on their patio. It was lovely and the hostess and waitress happily set up a spot for our outdoor dining.

The best thing about this restaurant is the food. Isn't that the way it should be? Putting aside all the beautiful aesthetics, the cuisine is exceptional and our server informed us that the owners of Elderberry Farm opened the restaurant to showcase all their delicious organic fruits, vegetables, herbs and pasture raised meets. Their "fresh farm fare" is outstanding. We started off with delicious home- made bread and then our lunch entrée's arrived. I had the Grilled Chicken Sandwich ($11) made with roasted red pepper, and Swiss cheese complimented by a delicious rosemary mayonnaise spread. The dish was accompanied by the most delicious light cole slaw flavored with a sweet & tangy poppy seed dressing. My Mom had the Vegetable Pasta ($11) filled with artichokes, roasted peppers, fresh herbs, sun dried tomatoes and topped with feta cheese. The sauce base was a delightful mix of olive oil and herbs with a hint of balsamic vinegar . My Aunt had the grilled portabella and vegetable wrap ($11) filled with fresh lettuces, asparagus, portabella mushrooms in a light mayo-hummus dressing. After our wonderful meal, our server suggested a fresh raspberry crostada ($7) and we happily shared this delightful culinary creation.

The restaurant showcases organic world-wide wines at reasonable prices as well as organic coffees, teas & beers. It is only open from March through September from Wednesday-Sunday. Lunch hours are from 11:30am-2:00pm and dinner service begins at 5pm.

You can also visit Elderberry Farm on the weekends from June through November where you can purchase their fresh picked organic produce in their country store (10am-5:30pm Friday & Saturdays) . Sunday farm tours are also provided if you'd like to get a first-hand look at how the farm operates. Please RSVP in advance so they know to expect you.
