Throughout the week leading up to the game, the media had bashed the Colts defense for being soft and unable to stop the run. Peyton Manning was faced with questions about the Colts' defense and if it was championship worthy. Football analysts believed that until the Colts defense proved that it was any good, it would always hold Peyton Manning back from a championship. However, judging from the performance in the Chiefs game, the defense looks like one of the best in the league. As the expressions go, the playoffs are a new clean slate for teams. Stats are thrown out the window and they certainly were in this game.
The Colts defense held the Chiefs offense, one of the best in the league, to a season low 8 points. The defense was simply amazing and made up for the fact that Peyton Manning was less than stellar in his performance, throwing three interceptions in the game. The final score was 23-8, another win by the Colts in the RCA Dome. The Colts are almost unbeatable at home but now they go on the road to play the Baltimore Ravens who have one of the best defenses in the league, led by Ray Lewis, and a much improved offense, led by quarterback and former MVP Steve McNair.
The Patriots- Jets game was another game that the final score did not give a true depiction of the actual game itself. The Jets hung close the entire game to the New England Patriots and former MVP Tom Brady. The game was held in New England where the Patriots are virtually unbeatable as well. The Jets actually pulled to a 10-7 lead and then the Patriots tied the game at 10-10. However, the turning point in the game came when the Jets quarterback Chad Pennington threw a backwards pass that was tipped by the Patriots defensive end.
The ball fell to the floor and almost every player thought it was a dead ball. However, the nose tackle on the Patriots pick up the ball and started running toward the end zone before Jets players realized it was still a live ball and tackled the player. When the Patriots offense came onto the field they scored a touchdown and jets fans knew that the game tide was about to change for the worse.
The Patriots play the San Diego Chargers next week in what should be an exciting game.
