The Results of the Second Round of the Playoffs in the NFC

The playoff games in the NFC were very exciting indeed. Each game was decided by a game winning field goal. However unlike the AFC football playoff games that featured two upsets of the lower seeds winnings, the two higher seeds in the NFC won.

The New Orleans Saints won a thrilling game with a game winning field goal by John Carney to win the game 27-24. The game featured the entire Saints offense in action as Drew Brees threw for over 200 yards and the running back Deuce McCallister was terrific, running for over 100 yards and having two touchdowns on the day. The Philadelphia Eagles once again played hard and fought to the bitter end behind the leadership of veteran quarterback Jeff Garcia. It will be very interesting what happens to Jeff Garcia who has resurrected his career in Philadelphia. The former Pro Bowl quarterback will surely get plenty of offers from team in need of a quarterback like the Oakland Raiders. The Eagles have an invested interest in Donovan McNabb so if Garcia decides to stay with the Eagles he will be a backup. Jeff Garcia has shown that he has the poise, quickness and arm strength to succeed in the NFL.

The other game on Sunday featured the Chicago Bears at home against the Seattle Seahawks. The Bears were led by quarterback Rex Grossman who has struggled in many games, including a 0.0 quarterback rating in the last game of the season against the Green Bay Packers. However in this game he played very well and his only mistake was fumbling the ball after being sacked. The Seattle offense played well as the Bears defense gave up 24 points. However, in the last drive of the game, Rex Grossman brought his team downfield and delivered them into field goal territory. Kicker Robby Gould delivered the game winner and the Bears won 27-24. The Chicago Bears next game will be against the New Orleans Saints in Chicago for the right to go to the Super Bowl

In order for the Bears to get past a tough Saints team, they will have to play much better defense against one of the league's best offenses which led the league in passing yards and has two of the best running backs in the league in Reggie Bush and Deuce McAllister. The Bears will probably be the favorite to win the game but the Saints have captivated the attention of the nation and everyone wants them to win. The Saints players bring joy with them as they have inspired the New Orleans City after it has had to be rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina.
