The Return of Beavis and Butt-head on MTV

Being a young boy with absolutely no access to cable television at home, I really missed the boat when the slacker duo Beavis and Butt-head graced the airwaves of MTV. I only caught up with concept of the show due to the idiotic laughter the two had and the tons of merchandise that classmates wore to school shortly before the administration decided to label it as contraband and quickly banned it from school. My house finally got around to getting cable at around 1997 but before I could watch fresh episodes of Beavis and Butt-head to find out what the big deal was, MTV canceled the darned show. The movie of them doing America was pretty interesting but that ship has sailed...

...until now.

The dynamically stupid duo is coming back according to MTV. The premise of those two high school slackers making sarcastic remarks to a beat up television in addition to other moments of random stupidity is still intact and set to fit today's pop culture. And boy is there a lot of stuff right now in need of a good ribbing like the fall of Megan Fox, the arrest of that Lohan girl, and maybe even that BP oil spill that will most likely still be going on by the time Beavis and Butt-head airs. The constant scandal and fashion sense of Lady Gaga alone would be enough for a season. With the original creator Mike Judge returning to the helm, the original quality is coming back as well.

This does bring up an odd situation. Beavis and Butt-head introduced the concept of random stupidity passing off as entertainment that evolved into things like Jackass and Family Guy in lieu of "creative" entertainment. And it can be argued that due to this influx of stupidity on the airwaves, television studios are stuck looking for fresh show ideas to the point of just bringing back Beavis and Butt-head in lieu of doing any original work. Will the original fans of Beavis and Butt-head still appreciate the humor as the idiot man-children of today or will they have finally matured and will prevent their own kids from being introduced to such nonsense? It is quite a conundrum.

But on the other hand, that show was pretty darned funny. And it does beg to ask whether Daria will also make a return appearance on the television. Stay tuned to find out.
