The Return of MTV's Unplugged Has Millions of Fans Ready for Their Favorite Acts

According to Reuters, music fans have a lot to look forward to this summer with the return of the MTV original show, "Unplugged." There will be a new format this time around that should reach a larger audience then in the past.

The new version of, "Unplugged," will not just be telecast on MTV. The channel will share the telecasts with VH1 and CMT. Each channel will televise acts that would be of interest for their viewing audience.

The traditional format of an episode of, "Unplugged," will have a group or performer strip their music down to the basic core of the song, and perform them. The performer or performers will then explain the background and inspiration for the song. This is also usually a good place to hear unrecorded or rare songs from a singer or group.

The first episode on June 22 will feature Bon Jovi in the, "Unplugged," format on MTV. This will coincide with the release of their highly anticipated new album that is entitled, "Lost Highway." It includes the hit single, (You Want To) Make a Memory, and is set to hit store shelves on June 19.

Bon Jovi is credited with giving MTV the idea for, "Unplugged," in the first place. Their near acoustic performance at the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards gave industry insiders a great idea for a show. Over the next few months, "Unplugged," was born.

There have been many memorable performances on, "Unplugged," especially the one by Bon Jovi, and the one by Nirvana. The album of Nirvana's performance on, "Unplugged," was the highest selling album from the show.

The list of performers for this year's installment of, "Unplugged," includes the Bon Jovi, the Police, Kenny Chesney, Mary J. Blige, and John Mayer. There may be other performances, but they have not been released as of the writing of this article.

It is expected that the performances will be released some time later this year in DVD format. These DVDs have been successful for MTV in the past and there is no reason why they will not be in the future.

As with the past installments of, "Unplugged," the performances of this season should be very popular with the viewing audience. There will be many Tivos and recorders that will be working hard this summer as people make sure that they are able to watch these performances over and over again.

Unplugged was sweet -- The Cure did an especially interesting set on the show a while back.
