Can the Clipse & the Rest of the Re-Up Gang Take Over the Mainstream?

The Reviewer
The Re-Up Gang was assembled in 2004 by platinum rap group The Clipse. Joining the Clipse in The Re-Up Gang are Ab-Liva and Sandman. The Re-Up Gang has released several underground mixtapes and is now releasing their first commercial album. Will The Re-Up Gang be able to take over the mainstream with The Clipse Present Re-Up Gang?

The album opens with Re-Up Gang Intro. The track starts with almost ominous sounding strings and builds into a strong beat and strong verses from each of the rappers.

The first single off The Clipse Present Re-Up Gang is Fast Lane. The song is surprisingly more commercial than you would expect from this street posse. The track features a catchy beat which has an almost Roger Troutman like influence on the beat.

The beat for Street Money sounds as if it is from outer space. The beat is very unique and interesting to listen to. The rappers all spit fairly solid verses; which only add to the effort.

Million Dollar Corner is a fantastic 1970's inspired hip hop track. The song is interesting and more of The Clipse that you expect from their previous albums. Each of the four lyricists delivers strong verses.

20K Money Making Brothers is a typical The Clipse sounding street anthem except the song has more of an old school rap influence. The song shows that The Clipse has various influences musically.

Emotionless is one of the most introspective tracks on the album. The album shows that The Re-Up Gang is able to rap about a variety of issues and topics.

We Know is another well put together posse cut. The track features an almost ominous beat with strong verses.

Still Got It For Cheap sounds as if it was a left over track from Nas' last album Untitled. The song is very strong and features moving strings and The Re-Up Gang at their best lyrically.

Been Thru So Much is another introspective track. However, this track is even deeper than previous efforts found on the album.

The Re-Up Gang comes strong on their debut album. The mixtapes have led to The Re-Up Gang being strong lyrically. The beats are also interesting and do not take away from The Clipse's now legendary word play. The album is a perfect preview for the new The Clipse album coming in the fall. Overall The Clipse Present Re-Up Gang gets 8 out of 10. If you are a fan of The Clipse or The Re-Up Gang make sure you pick up The Clipse Present Re-Up Gang when it is available in stores August 5th.
